Role description
Title – EHR Source System Subject Matter Expert (SME) Notes: Strong Experience required in any 2 EHR (Epic, Cerner, Oracle) Advanced SQL experience is a mandatory Requirement Summary We are seeking an experienced and highly knowledgeable EHR Source System Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess deep, hands-on expertise with multiple Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, including but not limited to Cerner, Epic, Athenahealth, and Allscripts. This role is critical for projects requiring detailed understanding of EHR data structures, data models, and the intricate relationships between various tables and modules to ensure accurate data extraction, integration, and analysis. Key Responsibilities β€’ EHR Data Model Expertise: Act as the primary SME for the data models, schemas, and underlying table relationships of major EHR systems (Cerner, Epic, Athenahealth, Allscripts, etc.). β€’ Data Analysis & Mapping: Analyze, document, and interpret complex EHR data from source systems to support data warehousing, reporting, and integration projects. Define and validate data mapping specifications. β€’ Query Development: Develop and optimize complex SQL queries to extract specific clinical, financial, and operational data directly from EHR databases (e.g., Cerner Millennium/MPages, Epic Clarity/Caboodle, Allscripts Sunrise/TouchWorks). β€’ Technical Consultation: Provide expert consultation to development, analytics, and business intelligence teams regarding the correct interpretation and utilization of EHR source data. β€’ Relationship Understanding: Clearly articulate and document the relationships between key clinical, administrative, and financial tables within the EHR data model (e.g., patient demographics, encounters, orders, results, billing). Required Qualifications β€’ Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of professional experience working directly with major EHR systems in a technical, data, or analytical capacity. β€’ EHR System Proficiency: Proven, in-depth technical experience with the data structures and modules of at least two of the following: Cerner, Epic, Athenahealth, Allscripts. β€’ Data Model Knowledge: Expert-level knowledge of how data is organized, stored, and related within the EHR system's core tables (e.g., Epic Clarity/Caboodle tables, Cerner Discern/CCL knowledge). β€’ Technical Skills: Advanced SQL proficiency for complex data extraction and analysis. Familiarity with database concepts and ETL processes. β€’ Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical data concepts into business-friendly language for non-technical stakeholders. Education β€’ Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Information Technology or relevant field. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, including but not limited to, computers, phones, and photocopiers. Physical Demands This position requires the frequent and repetitive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse. Hand and finger dexterity is required.
