𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 This is a hands-on Principal Backend Engineer role focused on algorithmic systems, computational services, and low-latency distributed architecture. You will own the design and implementation of core services that power nutrient optimization, diagnostic matching, and personalization at scale. You should be comfortable spending most of your time writing production code while also setting the technical direction for algorithm quality, correctness, and system performance. AI-assisted development is part of the workflow, so strong day-to-day use of tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, and multi-agent coding workflows is expected. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐎𝐰𝐧 - Design and implement mathematically rigorous algorithms for nutrient modeling, personalization, and diagnostic inference - Translate clinical, nutritional, and biological models into production-grade computational systems - Own the algorithm lifecycle from formulation and validation through optimization and production deployment - Ensure numerical stability, deterministic behavior, and precision guarantees - Architect cloud-native backend services on .NET, C#, and Azure for computation-heavy workloads - Design low-latency pipelines that balance precision, throughput, and scalability - Build event-driven, distributed systems for real-time algorithm execution - Optimize data models, query performance, joins, indexing, caching, and materialization for algorithmic workloads - Build scalable pipelines integrating labs, EHRs, wearables, and third-party data sources - Partner with healthcare, security, and compliance specialists when regulated data is involved - Mentor engineers and set the bar for algorithmic rigor, backend quality, and performance engineering 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭-𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 - 10+ years building algorithm-heavy backend systems - MS required and PhD strongly preferred in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or a related field - Deep expertise in algorithm design, computational complexity, optimization, and numerical methods - Strong applied mathematics foundation, including linear algebra, probability, statistics, and discrete mathematics - Proven experience implementing algorithms with strict latency and accuracy requirements - Expert-level C# and .NET experience with performance-aware engineering practices - Deep experience with microservices, event-driven systems, and distributed architecture - Advanced relational and non-relational database design, especially join optimization and algorithmic access patterns - Strong Azure experience with services such as Functions, API Management, Service Bus or Event Grid, Cosmos DB, SQL, and Key Vault - Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and backend application security fundamentals - Advanced, habitual use of AI-assisted coding tools in daily development 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐭-𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭 - Owns outcomes end to end and solves complex technical problems proactively - Thinks in systems, algorithms, and tradeoffs, not just feature delivery - Communicates rigorously and directly about technical constraints and decisions - Holds a high bar for craftsmanship, correctness, and performance - Thrives in ambiguous, fast-moving, high-expectation environments 𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 - Advanced statistical modeling or mathematical optimization experience - Custom ML, heuristic, or deterministic algorithm design beyond framework usage - Healthcare or life sciences data modeling, including FHIR, HL7, or lab systems - Large-scale analytics or data pipelines supporting algorithmic workloads - Experience productionizing research or academic models 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐞 This role is intentionally backend and algorithm focused. Candidates whose primary strengths are frontend, UI, or mobile development are unlikely to be a fit.
