Energy Planning Data Engineer | Location: Off-Site | Contract
We are seeking a creative and collaborative Energy Planning Data Engineer to join a remote team focused on data-driven insights and process improvement within the energy sector. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines to support advanced analytics and operational efficiency across utility organizations. The ideal candidate will work closely with analytical staff and stakeholders to optimize data flows, ensure data integrity, and promote data governance best practices.
Key Responsibilities
• Designs, develops, and maintains ETL processes for both structured and unstructured data sources.
• Implements and optimizes data workflows using MS Data Flows and other modern data engineering tools.
• Structures and models data to enable efficient storage, retrieval, and analysis.
• Builds and maintains scripts and workflows to automate data processing tasks.
• Extracts, transforms, and loads data from multiple sources utilizing SQL, Python, and enterprise data tools.
• Collaborates with analysts to identify trends, insights, and opportunities for automation.
• Observes operational workflows to identify data gaps and develop analytics solutions.
• Promotes a unified enterprise vision for data analytics, fostering stakeholder engagement and adoption.
• Implements data governance, security, and process improvement best practices.
• Communicates complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Organizes and manages meetings to align data initiatives with organizational goals.
• Continuously evaluates and enhances data operations for scalability and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
• 3 or more years of professional experience in data engineering or related fields.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data structuring techniques.
• Experience designing and maintaining ETL processes and data pipelines.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong problem-solving, initiative, and observational skills.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, including meeting management.
• Experience with data mining, modern data engineering practices, and cloud-based data platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with MS Data Flows and cloud data platforms.
• Knowledge of data governance and security practices.
• Familiarity with energy or utility industry data environments.
• Experience working in a remote or off-site setting.
