Engineer Technical Analyst Location: Grand Rapids, MI (Onsite Monday–Friday or 4x10 schedule; full onsite presence required) Employment Type: Contract through 05/28/2027 (High potential for extension) Position Overview The Engineer Technical Analyst supports Grid Operations within the Grid Management Department, focusing on Outage Management System (OMS) data quality, outage validation, and corrective analysis. This role ensures accuracy of outage records and related operational data that directly impacts performance metrics, reporting, and field dispatch coordination. The position operates in a high-volume, fast-paced control center environment supporting both routine operations and storm restoration activities. The analyst will work closely with dispatch operators, quality engineers, and control center teams to validate, correct, and maintain outage and hazard data integrity. Key Responsibilities: • Validate, analyze, and correct Outage Management System (OMS) data to ensure accuracy of outage events and restoration records • Support outage and hazard reporting with a strong focus on data accuracy and operational integrity • Perform detailed review of outage tickets, including start/stop times, field activity logs, and supporting documentation • Identify and correct discrepancies in outage data (e.g., incorrect timestamps, missing updates, incomplete records) • Collaborate with dispatch operators, quality engineers, and field teams to ensure accurate outage resolution tracking • Assist with storm restoration support, including high-volume ticket processing and time-sensitive data updates • Conduct administrative and data analysis tasks related to outage corrections and system improvements • Ensure proper documentation of outage events that impact operational metrics and reporting • Support continuous improvement of OMS data quality processes • Participate in cross-center coordination, including occasional travel to Jackson, MI (mileage reimbursed) Training Program: • Initial eLearning and web-based training • Weeks 2–4: Hands-on training shadowing dispatch operators and learning OMS navigation • Week 5: Training with Quality Engineering team focused on outage analysis and correction processes • Ongoing mentorship and collaboration using MS Teams (screen sharing and virtual support tools available) Required Qualifications: • One of the following: • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Construction Technology, or related technical field • Associate’s degree with 2+ years of technical experience • High school diploma with 4+ years of relevant technical experience • Minimum 2+ years of professional work experience in a technical or analytical role • Strong technical mindset with ability to interpret data, maps, schematics, and operational systems • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) • Ability to work effectively in a high-paced, time-sensitive environment • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision • Strong communication and collaboration skills Preferred Qualifications • Experience in utilities, energy, or grid operations (e.g., OMS, DTE Energy or similar environments) • Prior dispatch, control center, or emergency operations experience • Field operations or construction background (ability to read prints, maps, or technical drawings) • Experience in data quality, data correction, or operational analytics • Familiarity with telecommunications, cable, or field service dispatch environments • Exposure to storm restoration or outage response operations Key Competencies: • Calm and composed under high-pressure situations • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills • Ability to manage multiple priorities in real time • Strong organizational and coordination abilities • Team collaboration and conflict resolution skills • Safety-conscious mindset, with ability to identify and report safety violations Work Environment: • Fully onsite role in a control center environment • Monday–Friday schedule or 4x10 shift option • No field work required, but occasional travel to Jackson, MI • High-volume operational setting supporting real-time outage management Interview Process: • Microsoft Teams panel interview (45 minutes) • Focus areas: • Technical and operational background • Problem-solving and critical thinking • Work organization and relationship management • Safety awareness and escalation handling • Storm/restoration support experience • Ability to work under pressure and handle after-hours situations
