DataStaff, Inc. is currently seeking a Financial Business Analyst for a long-term contract opportunity with one of our direct clients in Richmond, VA.

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Business Analyst to support the design, development, and optimization of custom financial systems. This role bridges finance and technology, ensuring that business requirements are accurately translated into functional system solutions that enhance financial reporting, planning, and operations
Responsibilities
β’ Partner with finance stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements for custom financial systems.
β’ Translate business needs into functional specifications, user stories, and process flows.
β’ Collaborate with developers, system architects, and QA teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
β’ Analyze existing financial processes and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements.
β’ Support the implementation and configuration of financial modules (e.g., GL, AP/AR, budgeting, grants, forecasting).
β’ Perform data analysis, validation, and reconciliation to ensure system accuracy and integrity.
β’ Develop test plans, execute UAT (User Acceptance Testing), and document results.
β’ Create user documentation, training materials, and provide end-user support.
β’ Assist in system integrations with other enterprise platforms (ERP, CRM, data warehouses).
β’ Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal controls, data security and audit requirements.
Knowledge and Abilities:
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.
β’ Strong understanding of financial processes (e.g., general ledger, financial reporting, budgeting).
β’ Certification such as CBAP, CFA, CPA, or PMI-PBA is a plus.
β’ Understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., GAAP, SOX compliance).
β’ Strong business and financial acumen
β’ Technical aptitude and systems thinking i.e automation of tasks
β’ Stakeholder management and collaboration
β’ Attention to detail and accuracy
β’ Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
β’ Cross-functional collaboration with finance, IT, and operations teams
Required Skills:
β’ 7 Years - Experience as a Business Analyst, in finance or financial systems with strong understanding of general ledger, financial reporting, budgeting, and grants
β’ 5 Years - Experience working with custom-built or configurable financial systems.
β’ 5 Years - Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Visio)
β’ 4 Years - Familiarity with SDLC and agile methodologies (Scrum, Sprint).
β’ 4 Years - Experience in analyzing issues, problem-solving, and communication skills required.
β’ 4 Years - Ability to translate complex financial rules based on the stories into the technical requirements.
Desired Skills:
β’ 3 Years - Experience with ERP systems (e.g. Oracle financials, financial applications).
β’ 3 Years - Knowledge of financial data modeling and database structures.
β’ 2 Years - Basic understanding like APIs, ETL tools and integration between finance modules
β’ 2 Years - Experience working in government or public-sector environments
