Role description
As part of a major transformation and integration programme, we are looking for Financial Crime Analytics Consultants to help strengthen and optimise customer and payments screening controls. Sitting within the Financial Crime Screening function, this role offers a varied mix of business-as-usual activity and project-based change, providing the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while supporting critical day-to-day operations.
You’ll bring a sharp eye for detail, strong analytical judgement and a solid understanding of governance and control frameworks. Curious by nature and solutions-focused, you’ll be comfortable working in data-heavy, fast-moving environments, interpreting complex screening outputs and taking ownership of your work while collaborating effectively with others.
Using your screening analytics and technical expertise, you’ll enhance sanctions, Politically Exposed Persons, Special Interest Persons and Relative and Close Associates screening across multiple platforms. This includes analysing alert behaviour, refining matching logic, improving rule design for complex customer structures and supporting well-governed, auditable change. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Technology, Financial Crime, Operations and Governance to deliver screening enhancements that are both effective and compliant.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.
This is a 12-month Fixed Term Contract.
At Nationwide, we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK-wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon, Bournemouth, Northampton or London office. We will also consider Glasgow and Newcastle Upon Tyne as a location, noting that these are hubs.
Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location, we would welcome your application, and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.
What you’ll be doing
A typical day is varied and hands-on, blending project work with business-as-usual activity. You’ll spend time reviewing how screening systems perform, identifying patterns in alerts and making targeted adjustments to improve accuracy and reduce false positives, ensuring controls remain effective and proportionate.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across technology, operations, and risk to test changes, explore issues, and resolve instances where data or system behaviour doesn’t look right. Throughout the day, you’ll balance strong attention to detail with practical decision-making, knowing your work plays a vital role in protecting customers and the organisation.
About you
As a minimum, you will have:
• Hands‑on experience configuring and/or tuning screening tools such as Actimize or Fircosoft, with a good understanding of Firco modules, including Multi-List Manager and Classic
• A proven ability to design, tune, and validate screening rules and scenarios to support effective financial crime controls
• A solid understanding of matching algorithms, list‑management processes, thresholds, and suppression‑key strategies
• Demonstrable financial crime expertise across customer‑name and/or payments screening, covering sanctions, PEP, RCA, and SIP controls
• Experience assessing and improving data quality, with the ability to identify root causes of systemic or recurring issues
Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:
• Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
• Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
• Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
• Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes
You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
