Role description
FinOps Engineer – Azure
6-month contract | Inside IR35 | Fully remote (UK preferred)
We’re hiring a hands-on FinOps Engineer with strong Azure engineering experience to join a Cloud Centre of Excellence. This is a delivery-focused role combining cloud performance engineering + cost optimisation.
You’ll work closely with platform and engineering teams to improve performance, reliability and cloud spend through practical, technical solutions.
What you’ll do
• Optimise Azure infrastructure for performance, scalability, reliability and cost
• Analyse Azure usage and billing data to identify efficiency gains
• Engineer cost-aware architectures and performance improvements
• Translate technical changes into measurable financial savings
• Embed FinOps practices into cloud engineering workflows
• Build an optimisation roadmap across compute and platform services
• Ensure platforms are resilient, observable and cost-optimised by default
What we’re looking for
• Strong Azure engineering background (beyond basics)
• Proven FinOps experience (or SRE / Cloud Engineer with heavy cost optimisation focus)
• Solid understanding of cloud pricing models and cost drivers
• Experience improving infrastructure performance with financial impact
• 7+ years relevant engineering experience
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to have
• Azure Solution Architect (or equivalent)
• 3–5 years FinOps experience
• PowerBI / Tableau reporting
• VMware / on-prem environments
• Observability tooling (OpenTelemetry, Turbonomic, etc.)
Contract
• Duration: 6 months
• IR35: Inside
• Location: Fully remote (UK preferred)
If this fits your background — or you know someone strong in Azure + FinOps — drop me a message.
