Role Details: Position: Lead Java/React Engineer – FIX Protocol Location: Charlotte, NC Position Duration: Long Term Contract Job Description • Strong working knowledge of the FIX protocol — session and application layers, message types, tag structure, and session management. • Hands-on experience onboarding new FIX connections: certification testing, conformance, and go-live coordination with counterparties. • Ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and diagnose FIX session issues (sequence gaps, heartbeat failures, message rejections). • Familiarity with FIX log analysis and message-level debugging. • Understanding of networking fundamentals relevant to FIX connectivity (TCP, TLS, firewall rules, extranet providers). Development Experience • Strong software development background in one or more languages (e.g., C#, Java, Python). • Experience designing and building integration services and APIs. • Familiarity with source control, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing. • Experience working with cloud infrastructure (hosting, deployment, monitoring). Domain Knowledge • General understanding of trading workflows — order routing, execution reports, allocations, confirmations • Familiarity with common FIX message flows (New Order Single, Execution Report, Order Cancel Request, etc.) Operational Expectations • Experience coordinating FIX certification and UAT with external broker-dealers, exchanges, or ECNs. • Comfortable working directly with counterparty technical teams to resolve connectivity and message-mapping issues. • Willingness to participate in on-call / rotational production support, including off-hours connectivity troubleshooting. • Experience building or contributing to monitoring and alerting for session health and message flow. In this role, you will • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact. • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large-scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs. • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors. • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals. Required Qualifications • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent combination of work experience, training, military service, or education). • 5+ years of working knowledge of the FIX protocol session and application layers, message types, tag structure, and session management. • 5+ years of Hands-on experience onboarding new FIX connections: certification testing, conformance, and go-live coordination with counterparties. • 5+ years of Experience designing and building integration services and APIs. • 2+ years of experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership. • Ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and diagnose FIX session issues (sequence gaps, heartbeat failures, message rejections). • Familiarity with FIX log analysis and message-level debugging. • Understanding of networking fundamentals relevant to FIX connectivity (TCP, TLS, firewall rules, extranet providers). • Familiarity with source control, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing. • Experience working with cloud infrastructure (hosting, deployment, monitoring). • General understanding of trading workflows — order routing, execution reports, allocations, confirmations. • Familiarity with common FIX message flows (New Order Single, Execution Report, Order Cancel Request, etc.). • Experience coordinating FIX certification and UAT with external broker-dealers, exchanges, or ECNs. • Comfortable working directly with counterparty technical teams to resolve connectivity and message-mapping issues. Desired Qualifications • Experience with .NET, Trading, or market data protocols like FIX. • Strong software development background in one or more languages (e.g., C#, Java, Python). • Experience conducting code reviews, ensuring code quality, and supporting production readiness. • Hands on experience with E2E/UI testing frameworks like Playwright, Cypress and Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber/Gherkin (BDD). • Experience building RESTful services using Spring Boot etc. • Experience with cloud native architectures, including container platforms such as Kubernetes. • Working knowledge of software architecture and solution design principles. • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitHub based workflows, and modern developer tooling like Visual Studio Code. • Knowledge of application security practices, including identifying and addressing vulnerabilities using tools like SonarQube. • Willingness to participate in on-call / rotational production support, including off-hours connectivity troubleshooting. • Experience building or contributing to monitoring and alerting for session health and message flow.
