Role description
About Phi Partners
Phi Partners is a global Capital Markets IT consultancy, providing technology expertise to Tier-1 investment banks, hedge funds and asset managers. Founded in 2004 and headquartered in London, Phi operates branches across North America, EMEA and APAC. Phi specialises in Front Office and Risk Technologies, and our niche focus on these domains has been a differentiator and gateway into the worldβs most renowned financial institutions.
We work exclusively in capital markets, which allows us to provide a depth of expertise that generalist consultancies cannot match. Our consultants partner directly with front office trading desks, quantitative research teams, and technology stakeholders to deliver projects that are both technically challenging and commercially critical. We are rapidly expanding out centres of excellence in Europe and the Americas, with senior engineers leading buildouts for both buy side and sell side clients.
About the Client Engagement
Our client is a Tier-1 global Investment bank, with a strong presence across fixed income and derivatives markets. Recognised for their investment in technology, they are undertaking a multi-year programme to modernise and strengthen both their Market Data and Front Office eTrading platforms supporting trading, risk, and regulatory functions.
These platforms are critical for low-latency pricing, accurate valuations, competitive execution, and regulatory compliance. Consultants will work directly with Front Office users (traders, quants, risk and compliance teams) to deliver scalable, high-performance systems with tangible business impact.
About the Programme
The client is running a strategic multi-year initiative across its Fixed Income IT organisation to modernise core
trading platforms. The programme covers both Market Data and Front Office eTrading systems, maintaining and enhancing legacy components while transitioning to modern, microservices based architectures. Key priorities include improving data integration and distribution pipelines, strengthening system resilience, and enhancing execution workflows for products such as interest rate swaps, US treasuries, futures, and other fixed income asset classes.
This transformation effort is highly visible, with quants and traders relying directly on these systems for pricing models, trade execution, and market connectivity. You will be hands-on in the design, coding, and optimisation of low-latency applications, collaborating closely with Front Office desks, quants, compliance, and IT teams.
Roles and Responsibilities
β’ Design, develop, and enhance front office eTrading / Market data systems
β’ Enhancing legacy codebases while also driving modernization/microservices transformations
β’ Develop and maintain system architectures, designs, and concepts
β’ Interface directly with trading desks, quantitative analysts, and risk/compliance teams
β’ Maintain and improve code quality via static/dynamic analysis, CI/CD pipelines, and security vulnerability scans
β’ Deliver across the full SDLC from analysis through to production support
Key Skills
The ideal candidate will bring the following skills:
β’ Strong Java (JDK 11/17) & Spring expertise, with experience in low-latency, high-throughput trading & market data systems
β’ Knowledge of fixed income instruments (IRS, CDS, bonds, treasuries, futures)
β’ Skilled in REST APIs, JMS (ActiveMQ), SQL (MS SQL/Sybase)
β’ Proficient in multithreading, concurrency, asynchronous/event-driven programming
β’ Exposure to microservices & distributed systems (Kafka, Camel, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
β’ Strong communicator with FO user engagement (Traders, Quants, Risk, Compliance)
β’ Bachelorβs/masterβs in computer science or related field
Nice to Have:
β’ Familiarity with pricing engines, RFQ workflows, execution connectivity
β’ Knowledge Integration with Bloomberg / Tradeweb / ION integration, and FIX protocol
Next steps
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing fixed income IT team within a front-office engineering group delivering tangible impact on trading and risk workflows in a high-visibility environment. If youβre interested, please email your up-to-date CV to Rachael.vonderhaar@phipartners.com. We look forward to discussing this opportunity in more detail at your earliest convenience.
