Role description
Role - GCP Data Engineer
Location - Chicago, IL (Hybrid)
We are seeking a Google Cloud Data Platform Developer to design, enable, and modernize enterprise data platforms on GCP. The role involves working across data platform setup, pipeline migration, and data mart development, ensuring adherence to enterprise architecture, governance, and best practices.
1. GCP Data Platform Enablement
β’ Support setup of the US Data Insights data platform on Google Cloud Platform in accordance with EDAA-approved architecture and standards.
β’ Assist with configuration of core GCP data services used for ingestion, transformation, storage, and analytics.
β’ Follow EDAA guidance (where applicable) for:
β’ Environment structure (e.g., development, test, production patterns)
β’ Naming conventions and resource organization
β’ Security, access, and governance requirements.
1. Data Pipeline Migration (SQL Server to GCP)
β’ Assess existing Power Shell and SQL Serverβbased data processes supporting US Data Insights reporting and analytics.
β’ Design and implement GCP-native pipelines to replace legacy data processing jobs.
β’ Translate and refactor existing Power Shell and SQL logic into scalable GCP solutions while preserving business logic.
β’ Perform data validation and reconciliation to ensure accuracy and completeness of migrated outputs.
1. GCP Data Mart Development
β’ Design and build curated data marts in GCP to support US Data Insights analytics and reporting needs.
β’ Apply EDAA-approved data modeling and layer conventions.
β’ Partner with Data Insights stakeholders to translate business requirements into performant, well-documented data models.
β’ Optimize tables and structures for downstream BI and analytics consumption.
1. Standards, Documentation, and Handoff
β’ Adhere to all applicable EDAA standards related to data architecture, modeling, security, and governance.
β’ Produce technical documentation covering:
β’ Data pipelines and data flows
β’ Data mart structures and transformation logic
β’ Support knowledge transfer to US Data Insights team to enable ongoing ownership post-engagement.
Required Qualifications
β’ Hands-on experience developing data solutions on Google Cloud Platform
β’ Strong Power Shell and SQL skills and experience with cloud-based data transformations
β’ Proven experience migrating data pipelines from SQL Server or legacy platforms to cloud environments
β’ Experience working within enterprise data architecture and governance standards
