Role description
GIS Data Analyst This role supports high-impact wildfire mitigation and GIS data quality initiatives. The contractor will be responsible for maintaining and validating communications and geospatial data tied to grid devices. Key responsibilities include: - Updating communication states for field devices (e.g., reclosers, capacitors) - Performing QA on communications and GIS data - Supporting testing efforts for ADMS v39 upgrades, OMS, and wildfire initiatives - Collaborating with internal teams (Wildfire Engineering, Control Room Operations, point-to-point testing) and external vendors (e.g., Schneider Electric) Day-to-Day Responsibilities - Update and maintain communication states on field devices - Validate and reconcile communications and geospatial datasets - Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors - Participate in ADMS, OMS, and wildfire-related testing activities Team & Environment - Team Size: Small, collaborative group - Key Stakeholders: Wildfire Engineering, Control Room Operations, testing teams, external vendors - Work Environment: Collaborative, cross-functional, and team-oriented - Management Responsibilities: None Work Environment & Schedule - Work Type: Hybrid (in-office Tue/Wed/Thu with flexibility) - Hours: Standard 40 hours/week (no overtime expected) - Location: Denver, CO or Minneapolis, MN (no remote expansion) - Travel: None - Work Setting: Office-based (no field work required) Why Join This Role? - Contribute to critical wildfire mitigation efforts - Work on grid operations data quality and advanced utility systems - Gain exposure to ADMS, OMS, and SCADA-adjacent technologies - Collaborate across engineering, operations, and vendor teams - Opportunity to support a long-term engagement (~2 years) Required Qualifications - 3–5 years of GIS experience (utility or critical infrastructure preferred) - Experience with integrated GIS systems supporting downstream applications - Hands-on experience with version-based GIS editing (versioning/change sets) - Ability to interpret engineering diagrams (e.g., substation one-line, feeder diagrams) - Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (including SharePoint) Preferred Qualifications - Experience in utility, transportation, environmental, or infrastructure GIS - Basic understanding of SCADA systems - Familiarity with Python and/or SQL (nice to have, not required) - GIS-related degree or certificate (preferred, not required) Soft Skills - Strong problem-solving and critical thinking - Ability to work independently and manage mid-term projects (3–6 months)Effective collaboration across technical and non-technical teams Ref: #192-Precision San Antonio
