Role description
The Role Post: Head of Performance & Business Analytics Salary: £72,181 per annum Grade: FRS G Salary range: £72,181 - £89,656 per annum Contract type: Fixed Term (12 months) Working pattern: Full-time Application closing date: 4 PM on Wednesday 15 October 2025 London Fire Brigade (LFB) is London’s Fire and Rescue Service – one of the largest firefighting and rescue organisations in the world. We are here to make London a safer city. We employ over 5,500 people, across our operational team (our firefighters), control (our call handlers who answer your 999 calls) and our non-operational team (our teams who work behind the scenes to support our front-line services, including HR, IT, Finance, Procurement, Communications etc.). London Fire Brigade (LFB) is seeking an exceptional Head of Performance & Business Analytics to lead our Performance & Business Analytics Team within the Performance Improvement & Business Intelligence Department. This department sits within our Corporate Services Directorate and is central to driving data-led decision making across the Brigade. You will play a key role in ensuring the Brigade’s performance is measured, monitored, and clearly communicated. You will be responsible for overseeing the production of internal and external performance reports, including progress against our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP), Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendations, and His Majesty’s Inspectorate (HMICFRS) areas for improvement. This is a critical leadership role requiring strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence at senior levels. You will manage a team of analysts, lead the development of performance frameworks, and act as a data champion—ensuring decisions at all levels are evidence-based and aligned with our organisational goals. You will be responsible for supporting the organisation by leading the development of the performance team. You will have one direct report (performance analyst) and two indirect reports (reporting officers) who require ongoing development to ensure we are keeping up with the industry gold standard in reporting. You will be a highly analytical professional who has proven experience of making significant change through use of data and analytical tools. You will be responsible for managing the performance measurement framework and working with the LFB to identify areas of outstanding and under-performance. You will have significant experience working with stakeholders at all levels, using indirect influence to support performance improvement. You will also liaise with key external stakeholders, including the Deputy Mayor’s Fire Team, and ensure that the Brigade’s performance narrative is clear, consistent and politically aware. You will be confident in presenting to senior stakeholders and adept at translating complex data into meaningful insights. This role requires in-person attendance at our HQ or fire stations at least two days per week. Experience using structured methodologies or techniques to develop and review Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). 3. Experience of extracting business value from data and KPIs using both quantitative and qualitative methods. 4. High level analytical, research and planning skills in order to formulate and implement initiatives, co-ordinate resources, set priorities and ensure appropriate staff are utilised towards achieving corporate goals.
