Role description
Our client, a large enterprise Seattle-based organization, is looking for an experienced Information Governance Analyst. This contract role supports Information Governance execution by translating governance standards into clear, usable, and scalable data outcomes, operating at the intersection of business, data, and technology. Location: Seattle, WA – Hybrid (3 days/week onsite) Duration: 6+ months Compensation: $40.00/hr - $45.00/hr Benefits: Benefits available to eligible employees or consultants may include medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid sick leave, retirement savings plans, and other employer sponsored programs. Summary: The Information Governance Analyst will partner with business stakeholders, Data Owners/Stewards, and IT to ensure business-critical data is consistently defined, understood, and governed across systems. The analyst will independently drive governance from intake through delivery — understanding how data is created and used, documenting data definitions and relationships, mapping data flows, and enabling consistent application of governance standards. Work will be performed using Microsoft Purview and related tools such as Power BI to maintain business glossary terms, Critical Data Elements (CDEs), data product documentation, and supporting reporting that reflects real-world data usage. The role also contributes to governance standards and enablement materials, including writing concise documentation and delivering training and presentations to support data fluency and adoption. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and comfort operating in ambiguity, delivering stakeholder-ready outputs that are consistent, scalable, and aligned to enterprise governance expectations. Key Responsibilities: • Own delivery of governance work, ensuring outputs are complete, accurate, and ready for stakeholder use • Drive governance outcomes through metadata, standards, and documentation, ensuring alignment to enterprise expectations • Lead stakeholder discovery to understand data creation, flows, dependencies, and business processes • Document and maintain business glossary terms, Critical Data Elements (CDEs), lineage, and data product documentation in Microsoft Purview Unified Platform • Collaborate with business partners, Data Stewards, and IT to gather information, define data, and clarify business rules • Analyze and help resolve data quality issues, control gaps, and inconsistencies across systems • Conduct data validation and quality checks, including reviewing master data and identifying anomalies • Use Power BI to review datasets, analyze trends, validate data, and communicate insights through dashboards, scorecards, and reporting • Facilitate governance sessions and working meetings; capture decisions, risks, and actions, enabling clear and actionable outcomes that support business decision-making • Produce stakeholder-ready deliverables, including documentation, decision logs, communications, and governance artifacts • Prepare and deliver training materials, presentations, and enablement content to support data fluency and adoption • Contribute to the development and refinement of governance standards, templates, and repeatable workflows Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience) • 2–4+ years of experience in data management, data analysis, information governance, or related work • Experience collaborating with business partners, data stewards, and technical teams to gather requirements and clarify data or reporting needs • Familiarity with data governance concepts such as glossary terms, Critical Data Elements (CDEs), lineage, data quality, and data management • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data flows, assess data quality issues, and identify inconsistencies across systems • Ability to translate data governance concepts into practical business outcomes • Ability to create clear process documentation, business rules, user guidance, and governance materials • Proficiency with Power BI for dataset review, trend analysis, and creating data visualizations that support stakeholder understanding • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to facilitate discussions and support training or informational sessions • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams and manage competing priorities in a structured environment • Experience building or maintaining governance dashboards, metrics, or scorecards in Power BI • Ability to support process improvement using standard templates, controls, and repeatable workflows • Experience supporting project teams or operational workstreams, including stakeholder coordination and change adoption • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to accuracy Nice to Have: • Hands-on experience with metadata management tools, especially Microsoft Purview Unified Platform (glossary, CDEs, lineage, or data product documentation) • Strong business acumen across core operational domains (e.g., supply chain, finance), enabling practical application of data governance standards • Experience with SAP or enterprise data environments About Hansell Tierney: Hansell Tierney is one of the premier staffing and recruiting companies in the Pacific Northwest.
