Role description
ONSITE
The Critical Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for evaluating, maintaining, and optimizing the electrical, environmental, and network infrastructure supporting the 911 Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) and associated remote locations. This role ensures high availability, operational continuity, and resiliency of mission-critical systems through proactive monitoring, maintenance coordination, risk assessment, and vendor oversight. The engineer will serve as a key technical advisor, supporting infrastructure audits, failover testing, and continuous improvement initiatives in alignment with industry standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:Infrastructure Operations & Monitoring
Monitor, notify, and report electrical power, HVAC, and environmental alerts that may affect 911 call floor or RF antenna site operations.
Utilize OUC monitoring tools to track and analyze power usage, temperature, and humidity to identify potential inefficiencies or risks.
Conduct regular inspections, site rounds, and preventive maintenance checks to ensure optimal performance and reliability of all systems.
Oversee all aspects of the data centerβs critical infrastructure to ensure uptime and compliance with operational standards.
Maintenance & Coordination
Coordinate and collaborate with vendors and internal teams on preventive maintenance, repairs, or upgrades that could impact 911 operations.
Scrutinize change requests related to infrastructure or system updates and provide guidance to operations management.
Manage data center and facility projectsβtracking progress, managing schedules and budgets, and ensuring successful completion.
Develop and enforce maintenance and emergency response procedures for electrical, HVAC, and network systems.
Risk & Resiliency Management
Perform risk assessments for outages affecting critical data, environmental conditions, or power systems.
Update and maintain risk mitigation strategies, alert protocols, and escalation procedures.
Facilitate failover and disaster recovery testing for critical infrastructure and 911 applications.
Provide technical expertise in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and remediation planning.
Governance & Reporting
Generate weekly performance reports on infrastructure health, maintenance activities, and incident summaries.
Support audits of facility infrastructure and maintain accurate documentation of equipment, maintenance records, and design changes.
Review and draft Statements of Work (SOWs), RFPs, and vendor scopes related to data center upgrades and facility improvements.
Provide continuous feedback and recommendations for infrastructure improvements based on emerging best practices.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
Monitor and report on cybersecurity risks and patch management related to 911 center infrastructure.
Ensure adherence to industry standards such as TIA-942 and Uptime Institute Tier Standards.
Maintain compliance with OUC operational, safety, and physical security requirements.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelorβs degree in Facilities Management, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
10β15 years in data center or mission-critical facility operations.
3+ years in data center engineering and infrastructure design.
5+ years managing projects involving electrical, HVAC, and power systems.
Experience with emergency operations (911 or equivalent mission-critical environments) strongly preferred.
Certifications (Preferred):
Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA), BICSI, PMP, or equivalent.
Familiarity with TIA-942, NFPA 70E, and Uptime Institute standards.
