Java Backend Lead

Position: Java Backend Lead Location: Jersey City, New Jersey / Charlotte, NC Duration: 12 Months Contract Job ID: 175639 Job Overview: We are seeking highly experienced Java Spring Boot Backend Leads to join a strategic initiative. This role requires a strong blend of hands-on engineering expertise and technical leadership, with responsibilities spanning architecture, design, development, and team management. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned backend professional with deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and modern containerization technologies, along with experience leading high-performing development teams. Responsibilities: • Lead and manage a team of developers, providing technical guidance and mentorship. • Drive backend architecture, design, and development using Java and Spring Boot. • Contribute hands-on to coding, debugging, and performance optimization (approximately 50% hands-on). • Oversee code quality, best practices, and governance processes. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, QA, and business stakeholders. • Support and guide containerization and cloud migration initiatives (OpenShift preferred). • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines to enable efficient software delivery. • Ensure scalability, reliability, and security of backend systems. Qualifications: • 13+ years of experience in software development. • Strong expertise in Core Java and Spring Boot (mandatory). • Proven experience in technical leadership and team management roles. • Hands-on experience with Docker and containerization technologies. • Experience with CI/CD pipeline implementation and management. • Solid understanding of microservices architecture and backend systems design. Preferred Skills: • Experience with OpenShift (highly preferred, especially for migration projects). • Exposure to Kafka for event-driven architecture. • Knowledge of MuleSoft (nice to have). • Cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP) – minimum 3–4 years preferred. Additional Requirements: • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. • Ability to balance hands-on development with leadership responsibilities (50/50 split). • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. • Experience working in large enterprise environments, preferably in banking/financial services.
