Lead Data Scientist, Marketing Science Location: New York City Hybrid or Remote Duration: Long-Term Contract Industry: Technology / E-Commerce / Two-Sided Marketplace Job Description A leading technology company in the e-commerce and two-sided marketplace space is seeking a skilled Lead Data Scientist to join its Marketing Science team. This role centers around applying advanced analytics and statistical methods to empower marketing teams with insights that optimize performance. You will develop analytical tools, conduct ad-hoc analyses, and correlate user activity with marketing initiatives. Your work will include building statistical models, running experiments, and creating visualizations in collaboration with cross-functional partners to drive measurable business outcomes. As a key member of the broader Data organization, your focus will be on designing and analyzing experiments to quantify the impact of marketing and product strategies. You’ll serve as both a trusted advisor and technical expert, enabling data-driven decision making across the company. Responsibilities • Collaborate with marketing stakeholders across Brand Media, Lifecycle Marketing, Product Marketing, and Acquisition Marketing to deliver data-driven insights. • Analyze user behavior to identify growth opportunities that enhance customer and vendor acquisition, engagement, and retention. • Address complex analytics challenges such as media mix modeling, geographic experimentation, landing page optimization, and lifetime value prediction. • Lead projects from ideation to deployment, including business alignment, measurement, and delivery of actionable insights. • Define KPIs, set strategic goals, and design and analyze A/B tests to support data-informed decision making. • Build and maintain reports and data products using BI tools such as Preset, Looker, Shiny, or Streamlit. • Communicate results and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Explore and test new methodologies for continuous analytical improvement. • Mentor junior team members on analytical and statistical best practices. Qualifications • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, or related field. • 5–8 years of experience in data science or analytics within technology, e-commerce, or two-sided marketplace industries. • Proven experience in marketing-focused analytics, including Media Mix Modeling. • Strong foundation in statistics: hypothesis testing, regression analysis, forecasting, and A/B test design. • Advanced SQL proficiency and ability to write efficient, optimized queries. • Hands-on experience with Python for data manipulation, visualization, and modeling (Jupyter notebooks). • Experience creating or maintaining self-service analytics tools. • Excellent communication and storytelling skills for varied audiences. • Strategic thinker capable of translating business problems into analytical solutions. • Collaborative, innovative mindset fostering data-driven culture.
