Job Description:
About the Role
We are seeking a Lead Developer to join our Clinical Data Layer (CDL-TE) team based Onsite in the US. The CDL is a cloud-native platform designed to ingest, process, and standardize clinical trial data at scale. As a Lead Developer, you will champion technical excellence, steer architecture and design decisions, and establish standards for high-throughput data processing workflows.
This is a senior-level technical leadership role that blends deep technical expertise in data engineering and AWS cloud systems with hands-on development and team mentoring. You will work closely with other engineers, product managers, and delivery leads worldwide to transform raw clinical datasets into clean, structured, and compliant assets that feed clinical trial analyses and regulatory submissions.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
β’ Architecture & Detailed Design: Lead the architectural design and detailed technical specifications for custom data pipelines, cloud-native storage, and application workflows within the Transition Engine. Evaluate architectural trade-offs regarding cost, latency, scalability, and performance.
β’ Hands-on Development: Design, code, verify, test, document, and refactor robust data applications using Python, Databricks, DBT, and Airflow.
β’ Mentorship & Standards: Provide technical leadership and active mentorship to offshore and onshore engineers. Define coding standards, establish pull request review guidelines, and identify/create reusable application modules.
β’ Cloud Infrastructure & Security: Architect and deploy secure, robust, and scalable workloads utilizing AWS cloud services (including EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS). Establish best-practice identity management (IAM) and security scans.
β’ API & Integration Patterns: Lead the design and implementation of highly performant REST APIs, utilizing synchronous, asynchronous, and event-driven integration patterns.
β’ Process Automation: Build, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines (such as GitHub Actions) and DevSecOps processes to support automated testing, security scanning, and seamless infrastructure deployment.
β’ Cross-functional Collaboration: Work within a matrix structure, participating in Agile/Scrum planning, aligning technical strategies with Product and Delivery goals, and speaking as the technical focal point for the US-based team.
What We're Looking For (Requirements)
Must-Have:
β’ Experience: 10+ years of hands-on professional software engineering and technical leadership experience.
β’ Architecture & Design: Proven track record of architecting distributed data processing systems, schema design, and microservices.
β’ Data Engineering Stack: Expert-level proficiency with Databricks, DBT and Apache Airflow.
β’ Programming: Mastery of Python and solid database/SQL expertise.
β’ AWS Cloud Depth: Hands-on experience with core AWS services: EC2, S3, Lambda, and RDS, including IAM and secure VPC networking.
β’ Web Services & Integration: Strong proficiency in REST API design and integration patterns (JSON, XML, OData).
Strong Plus:
β’ Full-Stack Familiarity: Experience or familiarity with frontend tech stacks (HTML/CSS, TypeScript, Node.js, or React).
β’ DevOps Excellence: Solid grasp of infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), containerization (Docker), and automated DevSecOps pipelines.
β’ Regulated Systems: Experience working in GxP environments or software requiring compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 regulations.
β’ Security & Auth: Practical knowledge of modern authentication protocols (OAuth, JWT, SAML).
β’ Education: Bachelorβs degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technology stream.
The Tech Stack
β’ Languages: Python, SQL, HTML/CSS, TypeScript
β’ Data & Orchestration: Databricks, DBT, Apache Airflow
β’ Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS), Terraform, Docker
β’ CI/CD: GitHub Actions (including security & linting workflows)
β’ Security/Auth: OAuth, JWT, SAML, IAM
β’ APIs: REST, JSON, XML, OData
