Mandatory Responsibilities
• Team Leadership and Mentorship
• The role requires leading and mentoring a team of PostgreSQL developers. This includes providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to industry best practices, fostering a collaborative environment, and supporting the professional growth of team members.
• Data Model Design and Implementation
• The individual will be responsible for designing and implementing efficient data models for the Mid Office application. These models must be crafted with a focus on scalability and optimal performance to meet the evolving needs of the business.
• Performance Tuning Strategies
• Developing and executing strategies for performance tuning is a key responsibility. This covers query optimisation, index management, and the continuous enhancement of database performance to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
• Data Retention and Purging Policies
• Creating and maintaining data retention and purging policies is essential. The role involves balancing regulatory requirements with the need for optimal system performance, ensuring compliance while maintaining efficiency.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Collaboration with cross-functional teams is required to align database design with application requirements and overall business objectives. Effective communication and teamwork are vital to ensure that database solutions meet stakeholder needs.
• Database Security and Compliance
• Implementing and managing robust database security measures is necessary to ensure data integrity and compliance with industry standards. This includes proactively addressing security concerns and adhering to best practices.
• Documentation
• The role includes developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation for database structures, procedures, and best practices. Clear and thorough documentation supports knowledge sharing and continuity within the team.
• Database Monitoring and Issue Resolution
• Regular monitoring of database performance is required, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential issues before they impact operations.
• Code Review and Feedback
• Participation in code reviews is expected, providing constructive feedback to team members to uphold quality standards and encourage continuous improvement.
• Continuous Learning and Improvement
• Staying up-to-date with the latest PostgreSQL features and industry trends is encouraged. The individual should recommend and implement improvements to the database infrastructure as appropriate.
Requirements and Desired Experience
• At least 7 years of experience in database administration and development, with a minimum of 3 years focused specifically on PostgreSQL.
• Proven track record in leading and mentoring database development teams.
• Strong understanding of performance tuning, query optimisation, and indexing strategies.
• Experience in data modelling and database design within complex, high-transaction environments.
• Familiarity with travel industry data structures and processes is advantageous.
• Proficiency in SQL and PL/pgSQL, along with experience in using database migration tools.
• Knowledge of data retention strategies and compliance requirements relevant to the travel industry.
• Experience with database monitoring tools and conducting performance analysis.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex database concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Experience with cloud-based database services, particularly AWS RDS for PostgreSQL, is considered a plus.
