Role description
Lead Power BI Engineer
Opportunity for a Lead Power BI Engineer to guide the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-grade Power BI solutions that will power data-driven decisions across an organization. You will play a critical part in advancing our self-service analytics strategy, establishing semantic models, and fostering a culture of data literacy and governance. As a technical lead, youβll own the end-to-end Power BI lifecycleβfrom data modeling and DAX optimization to solution deployment and adoption.

β’ This opportunity is 100% remote.
β’ You can live anywhere in the US, but you must work EST hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
β’ Lead design and development of scalable, enterprise-grade Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models aligned to business goals
β’ Build and manage semantic data models in Power BI using best practices for performance, reusability, and user adoption
β’ Collaborate with data architects and engineers to integrate dimensional models and ensure alignment with data warehouse structures (e.g., Kimball methodology)
β’ Develop advanced DAX calculations, Power Query transformations, and optimize query performance to support analytical use cases
β’ Define and implement Power BI governance standards including naming conventions, workspace strategy, role-based access, and row-level security
β’ Drive and support the use of DevOps and GitHub for version control, deployment pipelines, and lifecycle management of Power BI assets
β’ Engage with business stakeholders to gather requirements, define KPIs and metrics, and translate needs into impactful data visualizations
β’ Provide hands-on training, documentation, and adoption strategies to promote self-service analytics and business ownership of insights
β’ Ensure high data integrity and accuracy through validation, governance alignment, and QA processes across all reporting layers
β’ Monitor, tune, and proactively improve performance of Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards
β’ Guide and mentor junior Power BI developers on modeling techniques, standards, and development best practices
β’ Contribute to the overall BI strategy by participating in roadmap planning, architecture reviews, and platform evolution discussions
β’ Stay current on emerging Power BI features, Microsoft Fabric capabilities, and visualization best practices to continually enhance user experience
REQUIREMENTS:
β’ 7+ years of BI/analytics experience
β’ 3+ years' experience leading enterprise Power BI design, development, and deployment
β’ 4+ years of Power BI data visualization/analytics expertise
β’ Experience integrating Power BI with data platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Snowflake, etc.)
β’ Expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), SQL, and building scalable semantic models using Kimball methodology
β’ Experience leading end-to-end BI project lifecycles
β’ Experience with structured/semi-structured data (e.g., SQL, JSON, flat files)
β’ Cloud experience (Azure preferred)
β’ Power BI Service administration experience, including workspace and security management
β’ Experience mentoring and guiding BI developers on technical best practices
β’ Experience implementing DevOps practices/tools for BI (GitHub, Azure DevOps) for CI/CD and version control
β’ Agile / Scrum methodology experience, including tools such as Jira or Azure Boards
β’ Experience defining business KPIs and working with business stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable insights
PREFERRED SKILLS:
β’ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar
β’ Tableau experience
β’ Qlik experience
