Role description
Machine Learning Engineer (AI Data Trainer)
About The Role
What if your machine learning expertise could directly shape how AI reasons through complex problems — at a foundational level, before millions of people ever interact with it?
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to improve how large language models think, plan, and act. We're looking for Machine Learning Engineers to help build the training data that teaches AI to reason like an expert — step by step, tool by tool, decision by decision.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for technical professionals who think rigorously and communicate clearly.
• Organization: Alignerr
• Type: Hourly Contract
• Location: Remote
• Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
• Design and document precise, step-by-step reasoning workflows for sophisticated technical challenges
• Record how an expert strategizes, selects tools, and makes decisions when solving real-world ML problems
• Produce high-quality training datasets that demonstrate proficient, structured problem-solving for AI models
• Audit and refine AI-generated reasoning traces — identifying gaps, errors, and logical inconsistencies
• Translate complex technical processes into clear, well-organized logs that AI systems can learn from
Who You Are
• Professional background in Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
• Able to break down intricate reasoning and methodology into clear, sequential steps
• Strong critical thinker — you can spot flawed logic and know how to correct it
• Detail-oriented and consistent, with a systematic approach to documentation
• Comfortable working independently and asynchronously on task-based projects
• Master's Degree or PhD in a relevant field
Nice to Have
• Prior experience with data annotation, data labeling, or AI evaluation workflows
• Familiarity with how large language models are trained or fine-tuned
• Background in prompt engineering, RLHF, or AI alignment research
• Experience working across multiple ML domains — NLP, computer vision, reinforcement learning, etc.
Why Join Us
• Work directly on cutting-edge AI projects alongside top research labs and AI teams
• Fully remote and flexible — structure your work around your schedule
• Gain rare, behind-the-scenes exposure to how state-of-the-art LLMs are trained and improved
• Freelance autonomy with meaningful, intellectually stimulating work
• Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
