Role description
We are working directly with an enterprise client to hire two contract Machine Learning Engineers / Data Scientists to support the development and deployment of data-driven products used across commercial and customer-facing teams.
This role focuses on applied machine learning in production, working with real data, real users, and clear business outcomes, rather than research or experimentation in isolation.
Contract details
• Contract Length: 6 months (with extension likely)
• Start Date: Q2
• Location: Hybrid – 1 day per week onsite in London (flexibility available)
• Day Rate: Up to £950 per day
• Engagement: Direct client
Responsibilities
• Design and build retrieval-based systems to support internal knowledge and search use cases
• Develop and productionise machine learning models for classification, scoring, and prediction
• Work with text and customer interaction data, including search queries, documents, and CRM data
• Build and integrate NLP-based services into existing applications and workflows
• Expose models via APIs and support their deployment into production environments
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and model performance tracking
• Collaborate with engineering, data, and product teams to translate business problems into ML solutions
• Ensure systems are built with security, data protection, and governance in mind
Required skills and experience
• Strong experience as a Machine Learning Engineer or Data Scientist in production settings
• Solid background in Python and common ML libraries
• Experience building search, ranking, or retrieval systems
• Practical experience with NLP or text-based ML problems
• Familiarity with deploying ML models as services or APIs
• Experience working in cloud environments and modern engineering workflows
• Understanding of data privacy and GDPR considerations in ML systems
Nice to have
• Experience with large-scale search or recommendation systems
• Exposure to customer, marketing, or commercial data use cases
• Familiarity with vector databases or modern search stacks
• Experience improving model performance, latency, and reliability over time
