Matillion Subject Matter Expert (SME)

This role requires strong hands‑on Matillion expertise, architectural understanding, and the ability to translate legacy workflows into modern patterns aligned with enterprise standards. Key Responsibilities Analysis & Reverse Engineering Perform a comprehensive assessment of existing Matillion jobs, pipelines, transformation logic, and dependency chains. Reverse-engineer complex Matillion designs to extract business rules, data flows, and lineage. Document current-state architecture, code logic, and integration touchpoints across systems. Identify technical debt, performance gaps, and modernization opportunities. GCP ETL/ELT Re-engineering Redesign Matillion pipelines into scalable GCP-native patterns using: BigQuery for data warehousing & SQL transformations Cloud Composer (Airflow) for orchestration Dataflow (Apache Beam) or Dataproc (Spark) for data processing Cloud Functions or Cloud Run for lightweight transformations Build reusable frameworks, templates, and standards for standardized ELT processes. Ensure new architectures adhere to enterprise data governance, security, and compliance policies. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Work closely with business SMEs to validate extracted business rules and transformation logic. Partner with data architects, cloud engineers, and product teams to align target-state architecture. Conduct working sessions, knowledge-transfer workshops, and technical walkthroughs. Provide recommendations on best practices, performance tuning, and optimization strategies. Documentation & Delivery Produce clear documentation for source-to-target mappings, logic specifications, and orchestration flows. Create detailed runbooks, design documents, and architecture diagrams. Support migration, testing, validation, and deployment processes. Required Skills & Experience Technical Expertise 8+ years of experience in ETL/ELT development with deep expertise in Matillion (Matillion ETL for Snowflake / Redshift / BigQuery). Strong SQL skills and experience with complex transformation logic. Hands-on experience with GCP data ecosystem preferred: BigQuery Cloud Composer (Airflow) Dataflow / Apache Beam Dataproc (Spark / Hadoop) Cloud Functions / Cloud Run Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and performance tuning. Experience migrating ETL workloads from Matillion or other ETL tools to cloud-native architectures. Analytical & Consulting Skills Ability to reverse-engineer undocumented or complex Matillion codebases. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to dissect legacy ETL logic. Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into technical implementations. Soft Skills Excellent communication and documentation skills. Ability to work with distributed teams in a cross-functional environment. Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in healthcare, diagnostics, or life sciences data environments. Understanding of HL7, EDI, or lab-information data flows (nice to have). GCP Professional Data Engineer or related certifications. Experience building reusable ETL frameworks or modernization accelerators.
