Role description
MEDITECH Magic / Expanse HIM Consultant Medical malpractice cases are complex, and so are electronic medical records. At Comperio Legal Services, we help attorneys interpret the workflows, records, metadata, and audit history embedded in major EHR platforms. Our consultants help legal teams understand how records were created, amended, scanned, abstracted, completed, and disclosed, so clients can move faster and build stronger cases. As our resident MEDITECH Magic / Expanse HIM Consultant, you would bring deep Health Information Management expertise across MEDITECH environments to support matters where your knowledge of chart completion, legal medical record production, scanning and archiving, abstracting, ROI, and audit-sensitive workflow analysis can make a material difference. Your primary responsibility will be to review case materials and produce clear written findings from the perspective of a seasoned MEDITECH HIM expert. This is a 1099 contractor role for U.S. legal residents. Work is fully remote and may be completed on your own schedule, provided client deadlines are met. Core Responsibilities • Analyze MEDITECH medical records, disclosures, and supporting system artifacts to explain what the legal medical record likely contains, how it was assembled, and where HIM workflows may have affected completeness or chronology. • Interpret HIM-centered workflows in MEDITECH Expanse and MEDITECH Magic, especially around chart completion, deficiencies, document imaging, abstracting, record corrections/amendments, and release-of-information processes. MEDITECH’s public product materials specifically identify Health Information Management, Abstracting, and Scanning and Archiving within its Expanse product set, and public parameter resources list Health Information Management, Medical Records, Abstracting, and Scanning and Archiving across Expanse and Magic platforms. • Assess whether scanned content, batch scanning, or point-of-care scanning could affect the timing, visibility, or completeness of documents in the chart. MEDITECH publicly describes its Scanning and Archiving solution as supporting both Point of Contact and Patient Record (batch) scanning to create a complete electronic chart. • Evaluate MEDITECH configuration and workflow issues that may influence auditability, documentation visibility, or downstream record production. MEDITECH’s public parameter guidance notes that Expanse application documentation highlights Audit Trail parameters and other high-impact settings that can affect workflow and operations. • Explain how HIM workflows intersect with adjacent MEDITECH functions such as registration, patient identification, order/document flow, data repository/reporting, and interface-driven record movement. Public MEDITECH resources and contemporary analyst job postings both emphasize HIM work alongside registration, scanning/archiving, dictionary maintenance, and workflow optimization. • Prepare concise, attorney-ready written summaries, declarations, chronologies, and expert-facing analyses that translate technical MEDITECH findings into plain English. Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s degree. • 8+ years of direct MEDITECH experience with substantial responsibility in HIM / Medical Records / Scanning & Archiving / Abstracting / ROI / Chart Completion. • Strong working knowledge of both or either: • MEDITECH Expanse HIM / Abstracting / Scanning and Archiving, and/or • MEDITECH Magic Medical Records / HIM / Abstracting / Scanning and Archiving. MEDITECH’s public resources show these application areas are formally documented across both product lines. • Demonstrated ability to explain how legal medical records are produced from MEDITECH and how scanned, abstracted, amended, and incomplete documentation can affect downstream disclosure. • Strong understanding of MEDITECH configuration concepts such as dictionaries, parameters, workflow controls, and reporting/data extraction. Contemporary public MEDITECH analyst postings also emphasize dictionary build/maintenance, and Magic-focused roles commonly call for knowledge of NPR/Report Writer, dictionaries, procedures, macros, task builders, and HL7 troubleshooting. • Excellent writing skills, especially the ability to turn technical system behavior into clear narrative analysis for attorneys and non-technical readers. Preferred Qualifications • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CDIP, or similar HIM credential. • Current or former HIM Director, ROI Director, Chart Completion/Deficiency Manager, MEDITECH HIM Analyst, or MEDITECH consultant with direct responsibility for legal record output. • 10+ years of MEDITECH experience, with exposure to both legacy Magic and newer Expanse environments. • Experience supporting or interpreting: • document imaging and indexing, • chart deficiency workflows, • release-of-information processing, • abstracting/case mix workflows, • legal medical record requests, • metadata or audit-trail-oriented investigations. • Experience with NPR/Report Writer, SQL, Data Repository, or other reporting tools used to validate HIM workflow outcomes. Public postings and MEDITECH materials support these as relevant skills in Magic and Expanse environments. • Working knowledge of interfaces, HL7/data mapping, and how external systems or scanning repositories can influence what appears in the chart. • Former MEDITECH employee or employee of a MEDITECH client organization with deep HIM ownership. Ideal Background The strongest candidates will usually come from one of these profiles: • MEDITECH Expanse HIM / Scanning & Archiving / Registration Analyst • MEDITECH Magic HIM or Medical Records Analyst • HIM Director or Manager at a MEDITECH hospital • ROI or chart completion leader with hands-on MEDITECH responsibility • MEDITECH consultant who has led workflow design, optimization, upgrades, or remediation in HIM-heavy environments Applications / Functional Areas to Target • MEDITECH Expanse: • Health Information Management • Abstracting • Scanning and Archiving • Registration / Patient Identification / Scheduling • Data Repository • Business and Clinical Analytics • MEDITECH Magic: • Medical Records / HIM • Abstracting • Scanning and Archiving • Report Writer / NPR • Patient Care Inquiry • Related registration and ancillary workflows Tools / Knowledge Areas to Screen For • Legal medical record production • Release of information • Chart deficiency and completion workflows • Document imaging, indexing, and retrieval • Point-of-care and batch scanning • Abstracting / case mix abstraction • Dictionary build and maintenance • Parameters and workflow-impact settings • Audit-trail-aware troubleshooting • Data repository, NPR/Report Writer, SQL, and operational reporting • HL7/interface awareness • Amendments, corrections, late entries, and record chronology interpretation Work Expectations • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Fast turnaround with strong attention to detail. • Ability to attend occasional meetings during normal business hours. • High professionalism in client-facing legal matters. • Ability to separate what the system certainly shows from what must be inferred.
