We’re looking for a highly analytical Data Engineer to help modernize and migrate business-critical data assets from SQL Server and SSIS-based environments to Teradata and/or Snowflake. In this role, you will trace complex legacy ETL and reporting dependencies, document end-to-end data lineage, and deliver accurate, validated migrations that preserve existing business logic and reporting behavior.
Responsibilities
• Analyze and reverse engineer legacy SQL Server, SSIS packages, stored procedures, views, tables, and SQL Agent jobs to understand existing data flows and business logic.
• Lead data engineering activities to migrate SQL Server tables and ETL workloads to Teradata and/or Snowflake environments.
• Trace and document end-to-end data lineage, upstream/downstream dependencies, technical risks, assumptions, and migration decisions.
• Perform cross-platform SQL conversion across SQL Server, Teradata, Oracle, and Snowflake while maintaining performance, accuracy, and functional equivalence.
• Optimize SQL queries and data processing logic for scalability, efficiency, and reliability across multiple database platforms.
• Partner with technical teams, project leadership, architects, and business stakeholders to validate requirements and ensure migration outcomes align to expected reporting behavior.
• Support architecture reviews and contribute to migration planning, sequencing, and implementation strategy.
• Execute data validation, reconciliation, and testing activities to confirm completeness, integrity, and consistency of migrated datasets.
• Assist with historical data migration, implementation readiness, production cutover, and post-deployment support.
• Identify issues proactively, solve complex dependency challenges, and deliver clear technical documentation throughout the migration lifecycle.
Qualifications
• 4-10 years experience as a Data Engineer
• Strong hands-on experience with SSIS packages and SQL Agent jobs.
• Advanced SQL development and query optimization experience in SQL Server, Teradata, and Oracle.
• Demonstrated experience with data lineage analysis, dependency tracing, and reverse engineering legacy ETL processes.
• Proven background in data migration and modernization initiatives involving business-critical data and reporting logic.
• Experience performing data validation, reconciliation testing, and migration quality assurance.
• Strong knowledge of cross-platform SQL conversion and platform-specific considerations across SQL Server, Teradata, Oracle, and Snowflake.
• Ability to independently trace complex tables, views, stored procedures, SSIS workflows, and job orchestration after onboarding.
• Strong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly document lineage, risks, and technical decisions.
• Experience supporting architecture reviews, historical data migration, production cutover, and implementation activities.
• Must be onshore and able to work onsite in Omaha, NE preferred, even if remote flexibility is considered.
Nice to Have
• Experience with Snowflake in migration or modernization programs.
• Experience with Informatica or other ETL/data integration tools.
• Background in data warehousing and enterprise reporting ecosystems.
• Industry experience in railroad, transportation, or logistics environments.
