Role description
The MongoDB Engineer will support an ongoing migration from MarkLogic to MongoDB, working hands-on across data modeling, development, ETL, and cloud integration. This role focuses on building, optimizing, and maintaining MongoDB solutions while partnering closely with the Migration Lead and broader engineering teams to ensure data integrity, performance, and successful delivery.
Required Technical Skills
• Strong hands-on experience with MongoDB, including:
• Data modeling (embedded and normalized)
• MQL and Aggregation Framework
• Indexing and performance tuning
• Replication and sharding
• MongoDB tools such as Compass, Atlas, mongodump, and mongorestore
• Experience working with relational databases and supporting migration efforts.
• Proficiency with Python and/or JavaScript; Spring Boot experience a plus.
• Knowledge of ETL concepts, data quality checks, and validation techniques.
• Cloud experience with AWS or Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with MarkLogic and XQuery is a plus, not required.
• Kafka exposure is a nice-to-have. Soft Skills
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Effective communicator who can work across technical teams.
• Self-sufficient, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-moving migration environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Build and optimize MongoDB schemas, queries, and indexes to support a large-scale migration effort.
• Develop migration scripts and utilities using Python and/or JavaScript.
• Support ETL processes, data validation, and quality checks throughout the migration.
• Implement and maintain replication, sharding, and performance tuning.
• Work with cloud-hosted MongoDB environments (preferably Atlas) on AWS or Google Cloud.
• Assist in integrating MongoDB with microservices and application components (Spring Boot experience is helpful).
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and support the overall migration plan.
• Contribute to documentation and knowledge transfer as needed.
