We service clients in SLED (state/local gov't & education), financial services, fortune, public utility, as well as regularly partnering with Big 4 SI partners. Job Title: Integration & API Engineer Location: Hybrid/Remote (Travel as Required) Duration: Long-Term Contract Industry: Utilities / Customer Transformation Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Integration & API Engineer to support a large-scale Customer Transformation Program focused on designing, developing, and implementing middleware and integration solutions across multiple enterprise systems for a long-term contract in Columbus, OH. This role will be responsible for building scalable APIs, event-driven integrations, and cloud-based middleware that enable seamless communication between customer-facing and back-end enterprise applications. The ideal candidate has strong experience with API development, middleware technologies, cloud platforms, event-driven architectures, and modern DevOps practices, with the ability to collaborate across architecture, development, and business teams throughout the software development lifecycle. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, implement, and support middleware and integration solutions connecting multiple enterprise systems as part of a customer transformation initiative. • Build and maintain RESTful APIs and asynchronous integration services to support scalable, high-performance business processes. • Develop integration solutions using MuleSoft and modern API-led connectivity principles. • Design, develop, and deploy cloud-native integration services using Azure, including Java (Spring Boot) and Python-based applications. • Collaborate with SAP technical teams to review integrations involving SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), providing design reviews, code reviews, and technical consultation. • Design and implement event-driven architectures leveraging Apache Kafka for real-time messaging and distributed event processing. • Participate in detailed requirements gathering, technical analysis, solution design, and documentation activities. • Produce high-quality technical documentation, including API specifications, interface designs, sequence diagrams, and integration workflows. • Apply established integration architecture patterns and best practices to ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions. • Develop automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure application quality and reliability. • Support CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes to enable efficient build, deployment, and release management. • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve integration issues across development, testing, and production environments. • Collaborate with architects, developers, QA teams, business analysts, and stakeholders throughout project delivery. • Track work assignments, user stories, defects, and project progress using Jira while participating in Agile ceremonies. Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). • 5+ years of experience designing and developing enterprise integration solutions. • Hands-on experience building RESTful APIs and asynchronous messaging solutions. • Strong experience with MuleSoft or similar enterprise integration platforms. • Experience developing cloud-native applications using Microsoft Azure, including: • Java (Spring Boot) • Python • Azure services • Experience working with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), including participation in architecture reviews, code reviews, or integration design discussions. • Experience implementing event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka. • Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and API design best practices. • Experience performing requirements analysis, technical design, and solution documentation. • Experience developing automated testing strategies and test automation frameworks. • Knowledge of DevOps methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, source control, and deployment automation. • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments. • Proficiency using Jira to manage work items, user stories, and defects. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with large-scale customer transformation or digital transformation initiatives. • Experience integrating SAP and non-SAP enterprise applications. • Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerized deployments. • Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies. • Utility or energy industry experience is preferred but not required.
