Role description
Open Architecture Data Architect / Platform Architect
Contract | Hybrid/Onsite (Boston, MA)
We are supporting a large-scale enterprise data transformation initiative focused on modernizing a complex legacy environment into a modern Snowflake / Databricks lakehouse ecosystem.
This role is ideal for a hands-on Data Architect, Platform Architect, or Principal Data Engineer who can bridge architecture and implementation. The focus is on enabling open architecture, interoperability, and scalable data platforms using modern technologies such as Apache Iceberg.
Responsibilities
• Design and support modern data platform and lakehouse architectures
• Enable interoperability across Snowflake, Databricks, and cloud-based storage platforms
• Implement and optimize solutions leveraging Apache Iceberg and open table formats
• Partner with engineering teams to support large-scale data transformation and modernization initiatives
• Establish data access, governance, and integration patterns across multiple platforms
• Drive performance, scalability, and reliability improvements for analytics workloads
• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance while remaining hands-on when needed
Must-Have Skills
• Data Platform Architecture or Lakehouse Architecture
• Apache Iceberg (or significant open table format experience)
• Snowflake and/or Databricks
• Spark / PySpark
• Python
• Experience with enterprise data transformation or modernization initiatives
• Experience supporting large-scale data platforms
Nice-to-Have Skills
• Trino, Presto, or Starburst
• Query Federation or Catalog Federation
• Kafka or Event-Driven Architecture
• DBT
• Performance optimization of distributed data platforms
• Data Governance and Metadata Management
• Capital Markets, Asset Management, or Reference Data experience
