The Data Asset Services organization is responsible for the full lifecycle of ETL (extract, transform, load) application development, enhancement, and maintenance. This includes system and problem analysis, coding and system modifications, configuration management and change control, test script development, validation of program changes, application documentation, and implementation of security safeguards in accordance with government standards.
HOW A PERFORMANCE DATA ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
β’ Provides data modeling expertise and performance-tuning guidance to optimize ETL workloads and database queries, including those supporting MicroStrategy reporting within the EDS Application.
β’ Lead the engineering of a scalable, cloud-based Data Lakehouse platform, known internally as the Unified Analytics Platform (UAP), powered by Databricks and hosted in Microsoft Azure to enhance enterprise data governance, observability, and operational value.
β’ Application development and maintenance efforts that provide direct technical assistance.
β’ Provide remote support on a 24Γ7 on-call basis. This will provide support for production server applications, installation and upkeep of ETL solutions, and the delivery of complementary services required to meet customer and business needs.
WHAT YOUβLL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education:
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, or a related field is highly preferred.
Experience:
β’ 15+ years of hands-on data modeling and querying experience
Required Skills and Abilities:
β’ Focus on development and maintenance of applications providing ETL services in support of the Postal Data Asset Services group.
β’ Significant experience with the Teradata optimizer is required
β’ The ability to read SQL βexplainβ plans and take action to effectively utilize the massive parallel nature of the database engine.
β’ Must have Teradata SQL, due to business logic embedded in the queries.
β’ Must have a thorough understanding of the internal βDBC Accountingβ information to effectively measure the performance of application code.
Desired Skills and Abilities:
β’ A working knowledge of how MicroStrategy and other OLAP tools interact with Teradata.
β’ Knowledge of Ab Initio tools, architecture, process and analytics
β’ A working knowledge of the major competing Data Warehouse modeling techniques (Third-Normal-Form and Dimensional modeling) and how data modeling decisions affect the performance of ETL, structured report queried, and unstructured data analysis.
β’ A working knowledge of GDE (Graphical Development Environment - used by Ab Initio)
β’ A working knowledge of Web API development.
β’ A working knowledge of storing, reading and analyzing streaming data β i.e., Kafka, MQSeries, or similar technologies, such as JMS.
β’ A working knowledge of Cloud technology - developing and architecting.
Security Clearance Level:
β’ Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting
β’ This position has a U.S. residency requirement. The USPS security clearance process requires the selected candidate to have resided in the U.S. (including U.S. Territories) for the last five years as follows: U.S. Citizens cannot have left the U.S. (including U.S. Territories) for longer than 6 months consecutively in the last 3 years (unless they meet certain exceptions).
