Power BI Developer / BI Engineer (Data Modelling)

THE OPPORTUNITY We're looking for an experienced Power BI Developer / BI Engineer to support a critical regulatory reporting and data transformation programme within a major UK bank. This role is focused on building high-quality, governed datasets and dashboards that underpin key regulatory and business decision-making. It's ideal for a hands-on Power BI specialist with strong data modelling expertise, capable of working in a highly regulated environment where data accuracy, lineage, and performance are critical. THE ROLE • Design and develop scalable Power BI datasets and semantic models for enterprise reporting • Build interactive dashboards and paginated reports with strong usability and visual clarity • Develop and optimise complex DAX measures for KPIs, time intelligence, and business logic • Perform data transformation using Power Query (M) and SQL-based pipelines • Design robust data models (star schema, dimensional modelling) to support performance and scalability • Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance standards across all BI assets • Monitor and improve dataset performance, refresh reliability, and access controls • Support integration with enterprise tools (e.g. ServiceNow) and workflow automation via Power Automate • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate into scalable BI solutions • Document data models, business logic, and reporting frameworks • Contribute to standardisation of BI tooling, including templates, DAX libraries, and development best practices TECHNICAL SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS Strong hands-on experience with: • Power BI - Desktop & Service, dataset development, report building • DAX - complex measures, optimisation, time intelligence • Power Query (M) - data transformation and shaping • SQL / SQL Server - joins, CTEs, window functions, performance tuning • Data Modelling - dimensional modelling, star schema, semantic models • ETL / Data Pipelines - building and maintaining dataflows and pipelines • Data Governance - data quality, lineage, and controlled environments PROFILE • Proven experience as a Power BI Developer, BI Engineer, or Data Analyst (advanced level) • Strong hands-on delivery experience, not just reporting/dashboarding • Experience working in banking, financial services, or highly regulated environments • Solid understanding of how data flows across complex enterprise systems • Comfortable working with stakeholders and translating business requirements into technical solutions • Able to hit the ground running in a fast-paced contract environment KEYWORDS Power BI Developer, BI Engineer, Data Modelling, DAX, Power Query, SQL, Data Warehouse, ETL, Data Pipelines, Dashboarding, Reporting, Financial Services, Banking, Data Governance, Semantic Models, Star Schema, Regulatory Reporting, Power BI Service, Data Lineage, Power Automate, ServiceNow
