Role description
Power BI Developer
Location: 100% Remote (U.S.)
Duration: 6-month contract (potential to convert)
Industry: Banking & Financial Services
Team Size: 6-person analytics/ETL generalist team
Focus: Digital acquisition funnel, metric ownership, reporting stabilization & redesign
Overview
Our clientβs Channels Analytics team has recently inherited ownership of all Digital Sales reporting, including the metrics, insights, and dashboards that measure customer behavior across the entire digital acquisition funnel.
This team is now responsible for understanding how customers move from application start β submission β review β funding β digital enrollment and beyond. They are seeking a Power BI Developer who can step into a high-visibility environment, stabilize an inherited reporting ecosystem, and eventually help redesign it for long-term scalability.
This role is ideal for a Power BI βSwiss Army knifeβ β someone who can take complex requirements, understand the underlying data structures, work through technical debt, and design clean, accurate, user-friendly reporting in Power BI.
What Youβll Do
Own 150+ Metrics Across 4 Dashboards
β’ Maintain, troubleshoot, and re-engineer DAX logic (all metrics are built in DAX).
β’ Take ownership of metric definitions, logic consistency, and reporting accuracy.
β’ Inherit each dashboard one at a time, beginning with the most critical.
Power BI Development & Design
β’ Build, refine, and optimize dashboards used by Digital Sales, Branch, Call Center, and P&BB teams.
β’ Apply semantic modeling best practices (star schema, relationships, tabular modeling).
β’ Improve and standardize templates and reporting schema created by the team over the past year.
Manual Adobe β Power BI Integration (Short Term)
β’ Support an existing manual workflow where Adobe Analytics data is exported and inserted into Power BI.
β’ Maintain this process initially; help evaluate and propose opportunities for automation.
Work With SAS-Based Pipelines
β’ Upstream teams use SAS to normalize and prepare data tables feeding Power BI.
β’ You will not write SAS, but you should understand how the SAS outputs map into your models.
Troubleshoot Power BI at a Deep Level
β’ Identify breakpoints in DAX, modeling, and refresh logic.
β’ Validate data across multiple systems using SQL.
β’ Investigate discrepancies and communicate impacts clearly.
Partner Across a Collaborative BI Team
β’ Work closely with a 6-person generalist analytics team that spans ETL, SQL, analytics, and BI design.
β’ Participate in BI work outside of Digital Sales as needed.
β’ Support knowledge transfer from the team currently managing these dashboards.
Required Qualifications
Technical Must-Haves
β’ Expert-level Power BI development experience
β’ Advanced DAX (complex, nested measures; large metric libraries)
β’ Strong semantic modeling (star schema, tables, relationships)
β’ Intermediate to advanced SQL for validation and troubleshooting
β’ Ability to diagnose and fix complex Power BI issues (performance, logic, refreshes)
β’ Experience working through technical debt in BI/reporting environments
β’ Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
Nice-to-Have
β’ Adobe Analytics experience
β’ SAS familiarity
β’ Python exposure (team occasionally uses it for ETL checks)
β’ Digital analytics or financial services experience
Soft Skills (Critical)
β’ Emotionally mature β stays calm when dashboards break (they will)
β’ Comfortable working in an evolving environment with manual processes
β’ Proactive, curious, and solution-oriented
β’ Strong communicator who collaborates well with cross-functional teams
β’ Positive, grounded mindset β the team values people who βwork to live,β not the reverse
β’ Enjoys metrics, customer behavior insights, and digging into complex data
Why This Role Is Exciting
β’ High visibility β your dashboards are seen by senior leadership (Briana, Aaron, Digital Sales executives)
β’ Opportunity to stabilize and rebuild a core reporting function from the ground up
β’ Full remote flexibility
β’ Chance to join a collaborative, startup-like analytics function inside a major financial institution
β’ Strong extension and conversion potential as the team scales.
