Job Title: Power BI Developer (Data Analyst / Report Writer 3) Duration: 3 Months (06/01/2026 08/31/2026) Hours: Up to 528 hours Work Type: Hybrid (90% Remote | Occasional onsite in Austin, TX) MUST have experience working for the State of Texas. Any State of Texas agency. If they do not have this, do not send. Role Overview The Texas Education Agency is seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to design and deliver enterprise-level business intelligence and data visualization solutions. This role focuses on transforming complex datasets into actionable insights through advanced reporting, dashboards, and data models. The ideal candidate will work independently on high-complexity tasks, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to strategic decision-making through data storytelling and analytics. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models • Build complex dimensional and semantic data models • Develop DAX calculations and optimize report performance • Translate complex datasets into clear, visually compelling insights • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver scalable reporting solutions • Manage Power BI workspace, gateways, refresh schedules, and security • Perform data validation, testing, and quality assurance • Support cross-functional teams with data-driven decision-making • Provide guidance or lead reporting initiatives when required Required Qualifications • 8+ years experience transforming complex data into scalable data models • 4+ years hands-on experience with Power BI (reports, dashboards, DAX, semantic models) • 4+ years building data visualization solutions • 2+ years experience with: • Power BI administration (workspace, gateway, refresh, security) • Cross-functional collaboration • Testing and validation of BI solutions • Experience working with Texas state agencies • Experience with public education / special education datasets Preferred Skills • Experience with Git / BitBucket (source control) • Familiarity with SAS datasets (.sas7bdat) • Experience with Jira • Exposure to other BI tools such as SAP or Tableau • Strong understanding of: • Data storytelling • Visualization best practices • User-centric dashboard design Work Environment • Standard hours: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM (CST) • Occasional work outside business hours may be required • Hybrid setup with mostly remote work and occasional onsite meetings in Austin, TX • All travel expenses (if any) must be pre-approved Additional Notes • This is a time & materials contract • Work products will be considered work for hire and owned by TEA • Background checks may be required • Vendor must ensure candidate qualification and compliance • Contract may be extended up to 3 additional years based on performance and mutual agreement
