Power BI Developer
6 months
London - 2 days per week
£350-400pd
Outside IR35
We are looking for a senior Power BI professional (Senior Consultant / Manager level) who combines strong hands-on development expertise with the ability to coach, mentor, and uplift a growing analytics team. This role is not just about building reports-it's about developing team capability, driving best practices, and enabling long-term self-sufficiency.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead end-to-end Power BI delivery: from data preparation and modelling through to high-quality, user-friendly visualisations.
• Coach and upskill analysts through structured training, 1-2-1 mentoring, and hands-on support.
• Translate technical concepts into clear, accessible guidance for less experienced team members.
• Proactively assess capability gaps within the team and define practical upskilling/training approaches.
• Support migration understanding: provide guidance on transitioning reporting from Qlik to Power BI (where relevant).
• Champion best practices across data modelling, DAX, visual design, and governance.
• Collaborate independently with stakeholders, taking initiative to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Document solutions clearly to enable reuse and ongoing team learning.
Core Experience (Must Have)
• Extensive hands-on Power BI experience in production environments (end-to-end delivery).
• Strong expertise in:
• Power Query (M) for data shaping and transformation
• DAX (clean, scalable, best-practice-driven development)
• Data visualisation & UX excellence - builds intuitive, polished, and business-friendly dashboards.
• Microsoft Fabric awareness - understands key components and how Power BI integrates with them.
• SQL proficiency - able to work confidently with underlying data sources.
• Coaching & training experience - proven ability to:
• Upskill technical teams
• Deliver structured and ad-hoc learning
• Provide ongoing mentoring and support
• Strong communication skills - able to explain complex concepts clearly to non-experts.
• Proactive mindset - identifies gaps and drives improvements without direction.
Desirable Experience
• Exposure to Qlik (QlikView/Qlik Sense) or strong understanding of report migration from Qlik to Power BI.
• Experience defining Power BI standards, governance, or capability frameworks.
• Building custom visuals or advanced dashboard features
