Power BI with SAP BW

Role Description This is a contract position for a Power BI with SAP BW role located on-site in Phoenix, AZ. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining Power BI dashboards, managing data models, and implementing SAP BW integrations to support business intelligence initiatives. Additional responsibilities include extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) data and ensuring the accuracy of analytical outputs to aid in strategic decision-making processes. Key Responsibilities • Lead end-to-end design and development of Power BI dashboards, data models, and visualizations for business-critical reporting. • Work extensively with SAP BW, BEx queries, InfoProviders, DSOs, Cubes, and CompositeProviders to build scalable data models. • Develop and optimize Power BI Dataflows, DAX measures, Power Query transformations, and multi-layered semantic models. • Integrate SAP BW data into Power BI using BW connectors, SAP HANA views, and ODP/ODX extraction techniques. • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into actionable dashboards and KPIs. • Ensure data accuracy, performance tuning, and best practices for BI governance, security, and data refresh strategies. • Work closely with SAP functional and technical teams to troubleshoot data discrepancies and optimize backend BW queries. • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior BI developers. • Drive BI modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy reports to Power BI cloud-based solutions. Required Skills & Qualifications • 10+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, with strong focus on Power BI and SAP BW. • Expert-level proficiency in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query (M language). • Deep experience with SAP BW data modeling, BEx Query Designer, and SAP data extraction techniques. • Hands-on experience integrating SAP BW/HANA with Power BI (DirectQuery, Import mode, Gateway configuration). • Strong understanding of SAP modules (FI/CO, SD, MM, PP, etc.) and their reporting structures. • Demonstrated experience with performance optimization of large datasets and complex analytical models. • Experience in data governance, row-level security, and enterprise BI architecture. • Excellent communication skills with ability to engage both technical and business stakeholders.
