Role description
Product Owner - Finance Data & Reporting The Doyle Group is a proven partner for Placement and Consulting services, headquartered in Denver, CO. Our core mission is to forge genuine partnerships with our clients who seek strategic talent solutions and to assist highly skilled candidates looking for their next career opportunity. With over 30 years of industry experience, our consultative approach allows us to provide a higher level of guidance and insight, empowering our clients to secure top IT talent that fits seamlessly into their team and culture. We look forward to collaborating to help you achieve your career goals. Position Summary Our client, who operates in a highly regulated insurance environment, is looking for a Product Owner to support the launch of a newly formed finance-focused product domain. This role is a contract opportunity with remote flexibility anywhere in the United States. This Product Owner will step into a highly visible initiative centered on financial data accuracy, business process clarity, and modernization of legacy system workflows. The ideal candidate brings a blend of Product Owner and Business Analyst capabilities, with the ability to quickly understand complex backend processes, translate ambiguity into actionable work, and partner closely with both technical teams and business stakeholders. This role will be focused on documenting current-state financial processes, supporting data cleanup and migration efforts, improving reporting reliability, and helping the organization transition critical workflows away from legacy platforms and into modern environments. The work is expected to be heavily data and process oriented, with significantly less emphasis on user interface or customer-facing product design. Responsibilities • Own and prioritize the backlog for a newly established finance domain, ensuring work is aligned to business goals, operational risk, and platform modernization efforts • Partner with finance stakeholders, technical teams, and business partners to gather requirements, clarify needs, and translate complex business processes into actionable epics, features, and user stories • Drive detailed discovery and documentation of current-state financial workflows, system logic, dependencies, and upstream/downstream data impacts • Help uncover and map business processes that are not yet well documented, including legacy logic embedded in long-standing systems • Facilitate the transition of financial processes and reporting workflows from legacy environments to modern platforms • Support data cleanup and data quality initiatives by identifying process gaps, inconsistencies, and root causes of reporting inaccuracies • Work closely with engineering, data, QA, and business teams to improve the accuracy, traceability, and maintainability of financial process execution • Create and maintain clear documentation that enables stronger business ownership and long-term knowledge transfer within the organization • Act as a liaison across business and technical groups to ensure shared understanding of requirements, dependencies, priorities, and delivery timelines • Lead backlog refinement, story writing, acceptance criteria definition, and prioritization activities in support of agile delivery • Partner with stakeholders to define current state, future state, and practical transition plans for critical reporting and finance-related processes • Contribute to problem solving around reporting modernization efforts, including work tied to platform transitions and improved business insight generation • Help educate internal stakeholders and future business owners on how systems, workflows, and reporting processes connect across the broader ecosystem • Collaborate with team leadership to move quickly in standing up this new domain and establishing strong product discipline from the outset Minimum Experience • 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or a blended PO/BA professional in an agile environment • Proven experience working on backend, data-intensive, or process-heavy initiatives rather than primarily UI-focused product work • Strong ability to gather requirements, document workflows, and translate complex business needs into clear technical work items • Experience working with cross-functional teams that include business stakeholders, developers, QA, and data/reporting resources • Demonstrated success navigating ambiguity and building structure in environments where processes are not fully documented • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to ask the right questions, drive clarity, and guide stakeholders toward decisions • Ability to rapidly learn complex business logic and document interconnected process flows in a way that supports delivery and knowledge transfer • Experience supporting agile ceremonies such as backlog grooming, sprint planning, and story refinement • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment while partnering across distributed teams Additional Plus: • Experience supporting finance, reporting, audit, billing, payments, or other operationally critical business domains • Financial acumen and comfort working with business processes tied to revenue, collections, projections, payouts, or reconciliations • Experience with reporting platforms or analytics environments such as MicroStrategy, Looker, or similar tools • Exposure to Salesforce or other platform modernization efforts • Experience working with legacy system transformation, data cleanup, or migration initiatives • Ability to run reports, interpret reporting logic, or partner closely with reporting and analytics teams • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform or modern data ecosystems • Exposure to AI-assisted analysis or tooling used to interrogate legacy code and understand current-state logic • Experience in insurance, fintech, or another highly regulated environment Salary / Wage Range $55.00—$65.00/hour Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown. The Doyle Group offers a competitive rewards package, which includes a 401k, healthcare coverage and other benefits.
