Role: Quantitative Data Engineer
Location: New York, NY (Hybrid 3 Days a Week Onsite)
Duration: 12 Months (Contract to Hire)
Job Description:
We are seeking a Quantitative Data Engineer to support Quant teams in enhancing and modernizing statistical risk models on cloud platforms. The role focuses on building Spark-based data engineering pipelines using Databricks and Snowflake and reengineering legacy C++/Java quantitative models into scalable Python and PySpark solutions with improved latency.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Develop data engineering pipelines using Spark on cloud platforms
β’ Modernize legacy statistical risk models from C++/Java into Python/PySpark
β’ Work closely with Quantitative Strategists and Statistical Modelers to build, enhance, and test scenarios
β’ Support a seamless model lifecycle from design and implementation through training and production deployment
β’ Develop, run, and infer machine learning and statistical models on the cloud
β’ Design reusable components, utilities, and out-of-the-box architectures to improve modeler experience
β’ Assess risks in design and development upfront and identify process improvements
β’ Plan and coordinate data and process migrations across databases
β’ Participate as a senior team member, provide thought leadership, mentor junior developers, and lead new initiatives such as cloud strategy
β’ Support Quant teams in running scenario analyses to evaluate business impact under different conditions
Required Skills & Experience:
β’ 10+ years of total experience
β’ C++ and Java experience
β’ Python, Spark, PySpark, and PyTorch
β’ Experience working with Quant or ML models
β’ Knowledge of Machine Learning, Statistics, and model development, training, and inference
β’ Strong understanding of ML tools including MLflow, Databricks, and Snowflake
β’ Strong SQL and database programming skills (views, stored procedures, triggers, referential integrity, performance coding)
β’ RDBMS experience (DB2, Teradata, Oracle, or Snowflake)
β’ Unix/Linux programming experience (shell and/or Perl)
β’ Strong design, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
β’ Organization, discipline, detail orientation, self-motivation, and delivery focus
Preferred Qualifications:
β’ Financial industry experience
β’ Interest in GenAI and Agentic AI
β’ Data engineering principles and risk model development experience
β’ ETL experience with Informatica
β’ Cloud database experience (Azure, Snowflake)
β’ Experience with Scala, Spark, C++, or PyTorch
β’ Experience migrating Java code to Python/PySpark
β’ Experience with AngularJS or KDB
Education:
β’ Bachelorβs degree required
β’ Masterβs degree preferred (Engineering, Computer Science, or Mathematics)
