Responsible AI Lead – Digital Engineering

This is an exciting opportunity to shape how Artificial Intelligence is governed, developed and deployed across a complex enterprise environment, ensuring AI systems are ethical, trustworthy, transparent and compliant by design.
Job Overview: As the Responsible AI Lead, you will partner closely with engineering, product, privacy, security and data teams to embed Responsible AI principles across the AI-enabled software development lifecycle. You will play a key role in driving AI governance, risk management and regulatory compliance while helping the business unlock the value of AI safely and responsibly.
Contract Details
• Contract Length: until 31/03/2027
• Location: London Paddington (hybrid – twice per week on-site)
• Rate: £625 per day (inside IR35)
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the implementation of Responsible AI governance frameworks, policies and assessment processes across Digital Engineering.
• Partner with engineering, platform and product teams to embed transparency, explainability, accountability and fairness into AI-enabled development processes.
• Conduct AI model reviews, including fairness assessments, robustness testing, governance validation and documentation reviews.
• Assess third-party AI tools, models and solutions to ensure alignment with Responsible AI standards and regulatory requirements.
• Deliver Responsible AI training, guidance and best practice materials to engineering and technology teams.
• Identify, assess and mitigate AI-related risks, supporting the development of automated controls and governance mechanisms.
• Advise senior stakeholders on ethical, compliant and secure AI development while contributing to the wider AI strategy.
Key Requirements
• Experience working within Responsible AI, AI Governance, AI Ethics, AI Risk, AI Compliance or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of AI technologies, machine learning concepts and the ethical considerations surrounding AI adoption.
• Knowledge of AI governance frameworks and emerging AI regulations, including the EU AI Act.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, data, privacy and security functions.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Good understanding of GDPR, privacy-by-design principles and broader technology risk considerations.
