Role description
A well-established technology organization is seeking a Ruby-focused contractor to support a time-sensitive modernization initiative. This role centers on upgrading a legacy USPS shipping integration to the latest REST-based USPS API v4. The engagement is fully remote, contract-based, and designed for an engineer who can work independently and deliver within a clearly defined scope.
This project is ideal for a seasoned engineer who enjoys short-term, high-impact contract work without long-term overhead. The scope is well-documented, the expectations are clear, and collaboration is lightweight. You’ll take ownership of a critical integration upgrade while working with a team that values clean execution and minimal bureaucracy.
Required Skills & Experience
• Strong experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails
• Hands-on experience working with RESTful APIs
• Experience writing or maintaining Ruby gems
• Comfort working in an existing, non-greenfield codebase
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Prior contract or consulting experience
Desired Skills & Experience
• Experience with shipping or logistics APIs (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.)
• Familiarity with OAuth 2.0 authentication flows
• JavaScript experience (any framework or vanilla JS)
• Exposure to Angular-based front-end applications

Tech Breakdown
• 70% Ruby / Ruby Gem development
• 20% API integration & data mapping
• 10% JavaScript / front-end support
Daily Responsibilities
• 85% Hands-on coding and implementation
• 10% Team collaboration (standups, reviews)
• 5% Documentation and handoff
