About the Role:
The South Carolina Department of Administration β Division of Enterprise Applications is seeking a highly skilled SAP Architect to lead a Brownfield Migration from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA on RISE. This is a new role, created to bring in a full-time expert who can drive SAP modernization, architecture, and transformation initiatives across systems, processes, and people.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned SAP technical leader with proven experience in SAP S/4HANA, architecture design, migration strategies, and integration frameworks β capable of ensuring the success of a large-scale digital transformation project.
Why This Role is Open:
New position created to provide full-time expertise in SAP architecture and modernization efforts during the transition from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA on RISE.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
β’ Lead the technical design and architecture of SAP S/4HANA solutions for Brownfield migration.
β’ Oversee migration of SAP ECC and associated components to S/4HANA with RISE using tools like SUM DMO and Conversion Cockpit.
β’ Collaborate with functional, BASIS, BW/Reporting, infrastructure, and security teams to define scalable, secure, and high-performance architectures.
β’ Guide remediation of custom enhancements, Fiori apps, APIs, and interfaces (PI/PO, CPI, IDocs) for S/4HANA.
β’ Define migration strategy, system sizing, and performance optimization.
β’ Ensure compliance with SAP best practices, security standards, and governance requirements.
β’ Participate in project planning, timeline estimation, and risk management.
β’ Review and approve implementation partner deliverables.
β’ Actively participate in Architecture Review Board (ARB) governance activities.
β’ Engage with SAP and implementation partners in reviews and planning sessions for RISE with SAP deployment.
Required Skills & Experience:
β
10+ years of hands-on experience with SAP technologies.
β
Minimum 4+ years in S/4HANA projects (Brownfield or Greenfield).
β
Proven experience as an SAP Technical Architect in at least one full-cycle S/4HANA implementation.
β
Deep understanding of SAP NetWeaver, ABAP programming (2β3 years), SAP HANA DB architecture, and SAP Fiori/UI.
β
Hands-on experience with SAP migration methodologies and tools.
β
Proficiency in integration technologies such as PI/PO, CPI, RFC, BAPIs, REST, and SOAP.
β
Strong knowledge of system architecture, sizing, high availability, and disaster recovery.
β
Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills:
β Experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP)
β Familiarity with Agile and DevOps methodologies
β Experience with SAP RISE
β Exposure to smartShift for SAP code remediation for S/4HANA
β SAP BW, Data Warehouse, Analytics, and Reporting tools
β Archiving experience using SAP ILM
β Experience in Federal or State Government environments
β SAP S/4HANA Technical Architecture certification
β Exposure to third-party tools (BSI, Vertex, Adobe Document Services, OnBase, etc.)
β Experience with Tricentis Test Automation
Education Requirements:
π Bachelorβs or Masterβs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
Candidate Requirements:
π Must be a South Carolina resident or willing to relocate to SC prior to the start date (relocation at candidateβs own expense).
