Role description
Job Title: ScienceLogic SME Location: Remote Duration: 18-24 Months Position Overview: Overview We are seeking a highly experienced ScienceLogic (SL1) Subject Matter Expert to support a large-scale, long-term engagement within a large telecom environment. This individual will serve as the go-to expert for all things ScienceLogic — owning platform administration, driving new implementations, and leading development efforts across a complex, enterprise-scale monitoring environment. This is a "jack of all trades" role: the ideal candidate is equally comfortable configuring the platform day-to-day, architecting and deploying new implementations, and building custom integrations, dynamic applications, and automations to extend platform capability. You will operate as the primary technical authority on ScienceLogic for the engagement, partnering closely with stakeholders, engineering teams, and other IT operations groups to ensure the platform scales reliably across a large, distributed infrastructure. Key Responsibilities • Serve as the SME and primary technical point of contact for all ScienceLogic (SL1/Skylar One) activities within the environment. • Own day-to-day administration of the SL1 platform, including system health, user access management, backups, upgrades, and patching. • Lead and execute large-scale implementation efforts, including new device onboarding, collector group design, and platform scaling to support enterprise-wide monitoring needs. • Design, build, and maintain custom Dynamic Applications, PowerPacks, and Run Book Automations to extend monitoring and automation capabilities. • Develop and maintain integrations between ScienceLogic and third-party tools (ticketing, CMDB, ITSM, cloud platforms, network management systems, etc.). • Configure and maintain IT Services, dashboards, custom reports, and business service views to support operational and executive visibility. • Troubleshoot and resolve complex platform issues, escalations, and performance concerns across a large, multi-tenant or multi-region deployment. • Establish and enforce best practices for platform configuration, monitoring policy standards, and change management. • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, translate business needs into technical solutions, and manage the full implementation lifecycle. • Document architecture, configurations, processes, and runbooks to support long-term platform sustainability and knowledge transfer. • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers/administrators supporting the platform. Required Qualifications • 5+ years of hands-on experience administering, implementing, and developing on the ScienceLogic SL1/Skylar One platform. • ScienceLogic Skylar One Expert Certification (or SL1 Expert Certification) required; ScienceLogic Professional Certification also expected as a prerequisite. • Demonstrated experience serving as an SME or lead on large-scale, enterprise ScienceLogic implementations (carrier/telecom-scale environment experience strongly preferred). • Strong expertise in Dynamic Applications, Run Book Automations, PowerFlow (integration platform), and custom scripting (Python, Snippet-based Dynamic Apps). • Experience with SL1 system administration: collector group design, upgrades, backups, health/diagnostics, and performance tuning. • Solid understanding of network and systems monitoring concepts (SNMP, WMI, APIs, syslog, etc.). • Experience integrating ScienceLogic with ITSM/ticketing platforms (e.g., ServiceNow), CMDBs, and cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP). • Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with enterprise client stakeholders and cross-functional teams. • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and take ownership of end-to-end technical delivery. Preferred Qualifications • Prior experience supporting large telecom/carrier environments. • Experience with Restorepoint (NCCM) and/or Skylar AI (RCA, Analytics) modules. • Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware) and major OS/directory technologies (Windows Server, Active Directory). • Background in IT Operations, NOC, or Network/Systems Engineering prior to specializing in ScienceLogic.
