Role description
Job Summary
The Senior Analytics Engineer will serve as the technical lead responsible for translating legacy data logic, validating data schemas, and defining use cases for Amtrak's enterprise data modernization program. Operating within a Databricks medallion architecture environment, this role focuses entirely on analytical specification, logic documentation, and gap analysis-translating legacy SQL stored procedures and ticket lifecycle logic into actionable specifications for Amtrak's Digital Technology (DT) team. This is a non-coding specification and QA role that bridges the gap between marketing analytics and engineering deployment.
location: Washington, Washington, D.C.
job type: Contract
salary: $70 - 80 per hour
work hours: 9am to 5pm
education: Bachelors
Responsibilities
Parse, translate, and document complex legacy SQL stored procedures (specifically MAP procedures) into clear business logic specifications covering ticket lifecycle events and derived fields.
Conduct variance and delta analysis between MAP stored procedure logic and EDW ticket lifecycle definitions, categorizing discrepancies as intentional, unintentional, or edge cases.
Validate beta canonical table structures and field definitions against SDHM and Sqills S3P data schemas to identify gaps, conflicts, and required clarifications.
Define and document business use cases for Databricks Silver and Gold layers organized by analytical function (revenue management, customer, digital, brand analytics).
Translate ratified working group decisions and schema validation findings into testable QA acceptance criteria for Digital Technology developers.
Qualifications
6+ years of experience in Data/Analytics Engineering, Data Architecture, or Technical Data Analysis. Expert-level SQL proficiency with proven experience reading, parsing, and documenting complex stored procedures. Strong understanding of Databricks Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers) and enterprise schema validation. Demonstrated experience with order/booking lifecycle schemas, ticketing systems, or PNR (Passenger Name Record) data structures. Exceptional technical documentation skills and experience writing QA acceptance criteria for engineering teams.
Equal Opportunity Employer: Race, Color, Religion, Sex, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, National Origin, Age, Genetic Information, Disability, Protected Veteran Status, or any other legally protected group status.
At Randstad Digital, we welcome people of all abilities and want to ensure that our hiring and interview process meets the needs of all applicants. If you require a reasonable accommodation to make your application or interview experience a great one, please contact HRsupport@randstadusa.com.
