Summary
We are seeking a Senior Azure DevOps Transformation Consultant to lead an enterprise Azure DevOps assessment, optimization, governance, reporting, and training initiative. This consultant will evaluate current Azure DevOps maturity, identify process and configuration improvement opportunities, establish governance standards, develop executive and operational dashboards, define portfolio management integration practices, and enable long-term organizational self-sufficiency.
The ideal candidate combines deep Azure DevOps expertise with Agile delivery practices, executive stakeholder consulting, dashboard development, governance design, training delivery, and organizational change management. This individual must be capable of engaging with executives, product leaders, functional managers, and technical teams while driving adoption and best practices across a multi-team environment.
Responsibilities
• Conduct a comprehensive assessment of Azure DevOps configuration, adoption, governance, reporting, and operational processes.
• Evaluate current-state maturity across work item management, backlog organization, board configuration, reporting, dependency management, work intake, governance, and capacity planning.
• Develop role-based training materials for executives, functional leaders, product managers, product owners, administrators, and individual contributors.
• Deliver instructor-led training sessions , workshops, demonstrations, and knowledge transfer activities.
• Deliver maturity assessments, gap analyses, recommendations, and remediation roadmaps.
• Define best practices for:
• Epic, Feature, User Story, and Task hierarchy
• Kanban board configuration and workflow design
• Backlog management and prioritization
• Cross-team dependency management
• Governance standards and backlog hygiene
• Capacity planning and work allocation
• Work intake and demand management
• Establish governance frameworks, operating procedures, aging policies, and delivery standards.
• Define ownership models and operating boundaries between portfolio management platforms and Azure DevOps.
• Create responsibility matrices, process flows, and system-of-record documentation.
• Design and configure Azure DevOps dashboards, queries, widgets, filters, and reporting views.
• Develop executive and operational dashboards supporting:
• Portfolio visibility
• Prioritization and trade-off analysis
• Team workload and capacity planning
• Delivery tracking and velocity
• Work mix reporting
• Backlog health and aging analysis
• Define meaningful delivery metrics and reporting standards while eliminating vanity metrics.
• Provide executive-level recommendations and facilitate decision-making discussions related to Azure DevOps strategy, governance, and organizational effectiveness.
• Produce comprehensive documentation, training guides, governance standards , and final recommendations for long-term sustainability.
Requirements
• 8 years of experience with Azure DevOps administration, implementation, consulting, or transformation initiatives.
• Proven experience conducting Azure DevOps maturity assessments and enterprise optimization engagements.

• SAFe, PMI-ACP, Scrum, Lean, Agile, or Azure DevOps certifications.
