Lead the analysis and reporting of business performance for the Capacity Planning leadership team. Maintain the team’s business information processes. Monitor and report on compliance across the Capacity Planning group.
About The Role (External)
About the team...
You’ll be joining a customer-focused team made up of specialists across sponsorship, risk, assurance, business planning, policy, and reporting. Together, we provide insight, challenge, and coordination to help Capacity Planning deliver its objectives effectively.
This role leads the reporting element, bringing data to life through clear analysis, engaging visuals, and meaningful insights that support better decisions. The team values collaboration, curiosity, and continuous improvement, and you’ll be encouraged to share ideas and shape how we work as we continue to evolve our services.
What does the average day look like?
No two days will be the same. One day you might be designing a new dashboard to track project performance or modelling data to highlight trends and risks. The next, you could be preparing reports or presentations for senior leadership, ensuring insights are clear, reliable, and aligned with business priorities.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across Capacity Planning, Finance, HR, and Programme teams, helping them understand and use data to make better decisions. You’ll also play a key role in improving how we capture, store, and present information, driving higher standards of data quality and reporting consistency.
Beyond your core reporting responsibilities, you’ll have opportunities to support wider initiatives across the team, from process improvement and assurance to business planning and governance development. It’s a role where you can shape how information supports the railway of the future.
Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for an analytical and detail-driven individual who enjoys turning data into insight and insight into action. You’ll have a solid understanding of business reporting, data analysis, and performance management, with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders and communicate complex information clearly and effectively.
You’ll be comfortable working across multiple data sources, developing meaningful dashboards and performance reports that inform decision-making at all levels. Experience using tools such as Power BI, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft applications that enable automation and efficiency (for example, Power Automate or SharePoint) will be valuable, along with a strong focus on accuracy, structure, and continuous improvement.
We’re seeking someone collaborative and curious, who isn’t afraid to challenge current ways of working, develop a clear plan, and see it through to deliver measurable reporting improvements. You’ll play a key role in shaping how information is used across Capacity Planning and the wider organisation, promoting best practice and a data-led, evidence-based approach. The ability to present ideas and analysis confidently to stakeholders is essential.
Essential Criteria
• Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject
• Substantial experience of extracting information and reporting from multiple data sources
• Excellent communication and analytical skills, with proven ability to present information effectively and appropriately
• Good working knowledge of business planning processes
