Role Summary
We are seeking a high-performing Senior BI Lead to spearhead our data visualization and reporting strategy. This is a "player-coach" role intended for an individual with mastery-level Power BI technical skills and the leadership acumen to manage a small junior level team. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of BI solutionsβfrom architecting complex data models to mentoring junior developers and presenting high-level insights to executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Team Management
β’ Team Development: Manage, mentor, and coach a small team of BI developers and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
β’ Workload Prioritization: Oversee the BI project roadmap, prioritizing high-impact requests and ensuring timely delivery of actionable insights.
β’ Performance Management: Conduct performance reviews, establish career goals for team members, and define standard operating procedures for development.
1. Strategic BI Development (Hands-on)
β’ Power BI Mastery: Design and build advanced, interactive dashboards using Power BI Desktop, incorporating complex DAX measures and Power Query (M) transformations.
β’ Data Architecture: Lead the design of scalable data models (Star/Snowflake schemas) and integrate data from various sources (SQL, Azure, ERP/CRM systems).
β’ Performance Optimization: Take the lead in troubleshooting and optimizing report performance, including query tuning and gateway configuration.
1. Stakeholder Engagement & Governance
β’ Strategic Partnering: Collaborate with executive leadership and department heads to align BI initiatives with overall business goals.
β’ Requirement Translation: Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating ambiguous business problems into precise analytical blueprints.
β’ Data Governance: Establish and enforce Power BI governance policies, including workspace management, Row-Level Security (RLS), and data accuracy standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
β’ Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in BI development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management capacity.
β’ Power BI Expertise: Deep technical knowledge of Power BI Service, DAX Studio, Power Query, and advanced visualization techniques.
β’ Technical Stack:
β’ Advanced SQL for data manipulation and extraction.
β’ Familiarity with Microsoft Azure (Data Factory, Synapse, or Blob storage) or Microsoft Fabric.
β’ Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
β’ Communication: Exceptional storytelling skills with the ability to convey complex data narratives to non-technical audiences.
β’ Education: Bachelorβs degree in computer science, Data Science, Finance, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications - (a plus, not mandatory)
β’ Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or similar.
β’ Advanced Tech: Experience integrating AI/ML models or Python/R scripts into Power
β’ Agile: Experience working within Agile or SAFe project management frameworks.
