Senior Business Intelligence Developer

Role: Power BI Developer Type: Contract (Outside IR35) Length: 6 months Day Rate: Market Rate Location: London (Hybrid) This role will focus on delivering high-quality data visualisations, semantic models, and optimised reporting solutions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Power BI development, data modelling, and stakeholder engagement. Key Responsibilities • Design, build, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models tailored to business needs • Optimise Power BI data models and implement efficient DAX calculations for performance tuning • Develop and manage row-level security and version-controlled deployments • Collaborate with data engineers and architects to ensure robust data model design • Work closely with analysts, developers, testers, and stakeholders to ensure solutions meet requirements • Lead and contribute to agile ceremonies, code reviews, and project workshops • Create technical and functional documentation for both new and existing BI solutions • Conduct data analysis to improve accuracy, completeness, and usability of datasets • Drive reporting governance, best practices, and standardisation • Mentor junior team members and support knowledge-sharing across the team • Stay up to date with Power BI and related technologies to support innovation and improvement Required Skills and Experience • 5+ years’ experience in Power BI development, including Power BI Report Builder • Expertise in DAX, data modelling, and performance optimisation • Strong knowledge of Power BI Service and Premium features • Experience working with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Data Lake Storage • Familiarity with Databricks and complex SQL query development • Hands-on experience with GitHub (branching, pull requests, CI/CD for BI deployments) • Good understanding of relational databases, data warehouses, and ETL processes • Strong visual design and data storytelling skills • Comfortable working in agile environments using tools like JIRA and Confluence • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders • Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of delivering independently and as part of a team Preferred Experience • Experience mentoring junior developers and contributing to BI strategy • Background in sectors requiring strong data governance (e.g. finance, insurance, etc.)
