Role description
Location: Houston, TX — Onsite 4-5 days per week. Remote candidates will be considered if open to traveling to Houston approximately twice per month. What You Will Be Doing: You will play a key role in building and scaling a modern data platform with a focus on data management, governance, and performance optimization. Responsibilities include leading the design, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines, driving implementation of data management MVPs including governance, metadata, and quality frameworks, optimizing performance across Databricks and Kafka environments, collaborating directly with client stakeholders, and contributing to advanced data engineering use cases including GenAI applications in data ecosystems. Required Qualifications: • Hands-on experience with Databricks • Hands-on experience with Unity Catalog • Experience building and optimizing advanced data engineering pipelines • Experience with DBT (data build tool) in a production environment • Kafka performance tuning experience • Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to collaborate directly with business and technical stakeholders • Ability to work independently and drive initiatives without heavy team support Preferred Qualifications: • Power BI experience • Data governance experience including metadata management, user access management (UAM), and data quality rules and metrics • GenAI applications within data ecosystems • Prior experience in the oil and gas industry Who We Are Looking For: A self-starter who takes ownership, communicates complex technical concepts clearly to business stakeholders, and is passionate about building modern, scalable, and well-governed data platforms. This is not a role for someone who needs direction at every step — the right candidate will be comfortable operating independently in a client environment from day one.
