Role description
Senior Data Engineer
Microsoft Fabric - Power BI - SQL - Azure
Location: Fully Remote
Duration: Initially 3 months (Likely extensions)
£500-550 per day, Inside IR35
We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a small, high-performing team and take ownership of the data pipelines that transform complex raw data into valuable insights for customers.
Their platform runs on Microsoft Fabric and Azure. You'll be working across the whole flow, from ingestion and transformation through to the dashboards clients actually see. This suits someone who enjoys breadth and wants visibility over the full lifecycle rather than a narrow slice of it.
This is a hands-on role in a small team. You'll have real influence over how things are built.
What you'll be doing:
• Maintaining, extending and troubleshooting data pipelines in Microsoft Fabric, including ad-hoc changes to existing pipelines and Python notebooks
• Building and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports for internal and client-facing use
• Writing and optimising SQL against their Azure SQL estate - transformations, data quality checks, and performance tuning
• Investigating and resolving pipeline failures, and improving the resilience and observability of what we run
• Documenting how things work so the team isn't dependent on any single person
• Working directly with their research and client teams to understand what the data needs to answer
Essential skills:
• Microsoft Fabric - practical experience building and modifying data pipelines and Python notebooks
• Power BI - building dashboards from scratch, data modelling, and DAX
• Microsoft SQL Server / Azure SQL - confident writing and optimising non-trivial queries
• Comfortable working independently on ambiguous problems and seeing them through to a documented fix
• Experience working within Agile delivery teams using sprint-based planning and delivery approaches.
• Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple parallel workstreams.
• Comfortable adapting to changing priorities and responding positively to shifting business requirements.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make pragmatic decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Desirable
• Azure Cosmos DB - data modelling and querying
• Azure AI Foundry - building or deploying AI-enabled workflows
Please apply by submitting your latest CV for immediate review by our Talent team.
