Join our growing Professional Services team to help customers implement innovative solutions and deliver measurable business outcomes. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer with deep expertise in the Ed-Fi Data Standard to join our Professional Services team. In this contract-to-hire role, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of education data solutions for K-12 State Education Agencies (SEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs). You will work with Ed-Fi ODS/API implementations, student information system integrations, and state longitudinal data systems (SLDS) using AWS cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate combines strong data engineering fundamentals with specialized knowledge of education data ecosystems, including compliance with FERPA, state reporting requirements, and interoperability standards. After a successful 6-month contract period, high-performing candidates will be eligible for conversion to full-time employment. Key ResponsibilitiesEd-Fi Implementation & Integration Design and implement Ed-Fi ODS/API deployments for state and district clients Build and optimize data pipelines to ingest data from Student Information Systems (SIS) such as PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, and Skyward into Ed-Fi ODS Develop ETL/ELT processes to transform source data to conform with Ed-Fi Data Standard specifications Implement Ed-Fi API integrations for assessment platforms, HR systems, and other education applications Configure and customize Ed-Fi extensions to meet state-specific reporting requirements Data Architecture & Engineering Architect scalable data lake and data warehouse solutions on AWS for education analytics Design data models supporting state longitudinal data systems (SLDS) and federal reporting (EdFacts, CRDC) Implement data quality frameworks ensuring accuracy of student demographics, enrollment, and assessment data Build automated data validation and reconciliation processes for state submissions Leverage AWS services including S3, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, and Step Functions Compliance & Data Governance Ensure solutions comply with FERPA, COPPA, and state student privacy regulations Implement PII protection controls including encryption, masking, and access management Support data governance initiatives and metadata management for education data Document data lineage and maintain data dictionaries aligned with Ed-Fi standards Client Engagement & Leadership Serve as technical lead on Ed-Fi implementation projects for SEA and LEA clients Conduct requirements workshops with state IT and data governance teams Mentor junior engineers on Ed-Fi standards and education data best practices Present technical solutions to stakeholders including state CIOs and data officers Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field 6+ years of data engineering experience with at least 2 years working with Ed-Fi Data Standard Hands-on experience with Ed-Fi ODS/API deployment, configuration, and customization Strong proficiency in Python and SQL; experience with Spark is a plus Experience with AWS data services (S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena, Lambda) Proven experience integrating Student Information Systems (PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Skyward, etc.) Understanding of state education reporting requirements and EdFacts submission processes Knowledge of FERPA compliance requirements for student data protection Excellent communication skills with ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a relevant field AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Data Analytics Specialty) Experience with State Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) implementation Familiarity with CEDS (Common Education Data Standards) and SIF standards Experience with education analytics and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, QuickSight) Prior consulting or professional services experience Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation) Knowledge of K-12 education operations, accountability systems, and assessment programs Pay: $150,000.00 - $195,000.00 per year Work Location: Remote
