Microsoft Fabric Architect / Engineer (Remote)
Location: Remote (U.S.)
Pay Range: $70-$75/hour
Duration: 3-Month Contract (Potential Extension)

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Fabric Architect / Engineer to support one of our enterprise public-sector clients's analytics modernization initiative. This consultant will partner with the Business Technologies Division to assess, design, implement, and optimize Microsoft Fabric capabilities while establishing scalable architecture, governance, and best practices across the enterprise.
This is a hands-on technical consulting role requiring deep expertise across Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, modern data engineering, governance, and enterprise analytics.
Responsibilities
Microsoft Fabric Architecture
β’ Assess and validate the organization's Microsoft Fabric architecture, including tenant configuration, workspaces, capacities, domains, OneLake, and Power BI integration.
β’ Design scalable architecture for Lakehouses, Warehouses, semantic models, Direct Lake, Data Factory pipelines, and enterprise reporting.
β’ Recommend best practices for enterprise analytics and data platform modernization.
Data Engineering
β’ Design and implement reusable ingestion, transformation, and orchestration patterns using:
β’ Microsoft Fabric Data Factory
β’ Dataflows Gen2
β’ Notebooks
β’ Lakehouses
β’ Warehouses
β’ Develop medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) where appropriate.
β’ Support integration with enterprise applications, APIs, operational systems, Microsoft 365, Azure services, and file-based data sources.
Governance & Administration
β’ Define governance standards across Microsoft Fabric.
β’ Configure and recommend:
β’ Tenant settings
β’ Workspace administration
β’ Role-based security (RBAC)
β’ Capacity administration
β’ Sensitivity labels
β’ Endorsements
β’ Lineage
β’ Microsoft Purview integration
β’ Establish development, testing, and production environment standards.
Performance & Capacity Optimization
β’ Evaluate Fabric capacity sizing and workload placement.
β’ Optimize refresh strategies, query performance, storage utilization, and cost management.
β’ Design operational dashboards, monitoring, alerts, and runbooks to support ongoing platform management.
DevOps & Deployment
β’ Establish source control and deployment best practices.
β’ Design release management and environment promotion processes.
β’ Define naming conventions, documentation standards, and repeatable deployment patterns for:
β’ Semantic Models
β’ Reports
β’ Pipelines
β’ Notebooks
β’ Lakehouses
β’ Warehouses
β’ Shared Datasets
Knowledge Transfer
β’ Conduct technical workshops and working sessions with internal teams.
β’ Produce architecture documentation, implementation standards, governance recommendations, and operational procedures.
β’ Present findings, recommendations, risks, and next steps to technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
β’ 5+ years of experience designing and implementing Microsoft data and analytics platforms.
β’ Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric in enterprise environments.
β’ Strong experience with:
