Senior Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric
Contract: Initial 3 months with view to extend
Contract type: INSIDE IR35
Rate: Up to £500 per day (some potential flex up to £550 for strong fit, but not guaranteed)
Clearance: BPSS eligibility
Location: Morpeth, Northumberland – onsite once per fortnight (non-negotiable)
Start: ASAP - your notice period must be 2 weeks or less.
We’re supporting a public-sector/central government organisation looking for a Senior Data Engineer to lead the delivery of data integration, transformation and reporting solutions within Microsoft Fabric.
This is a hands-on senior role requiring deep Microsoft Fabric and Azure expertise, alongside the ability to provide technical direction and support less-experienced engineers. Formal management experience is not essential, but you must have demonstrable experience leading technical delivery, mentoring colleagues or acting as the senior technical voice within a team.
Key responsibilities
• Design and deliver data integration and transformation solutions using Microsoft Fabric.
• Build and optimise bronze, silver and gold data pipelines.
• Implement data matching, validation and data-quality rules.
• Develop and optimise Lakehouse and semantic models for Power BI reporting.
• Create clear and intuitive Power BI dashboards to support operational insight.
• Integrate CRM, contact-centre and line-of-business platforms into Microsoft Fabric.
• Provide technical leadership and help oversee and mentor other engineers.
• Work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders to define requirements and communicate delivery progress.
• Contribute to shared data-engineering standards, documentation and Agile delivery practices.
Essential experience
• Significant hands-on experience delivering solutions using Microsoft Fabric.
• Strong knowledge of Azure data services and architecture.
• Strong commercial experience as a Data Engineer, ideally with approximately seven or more years in data engineering.
• Experience building robust bronze–silver–gold data pipelines.
• Experience developing Lakehouse and semantic models.
• Strong Power BI experience, including dashboard development.
• Demonstrable technical leadership, mentoring or responsibility for guiding the work of other engineers.
• Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills.
• Experience working within Agile delivery teams.
Desirable experience
• Exposure to AWS or cross-cloud environments.
• Integrating contact-centre platforms, particularly Amazon Connect.
• Integrating CRM systems and other operational or line-of-business applications.
• Delivering channel-shift analysis or operational reporting solutions.
Please apply through the job advert with an up-to-date CV outlining your Microsoft Fabric and technical leadership experience. If these are not evidenced, we will not be able to consider your application.
