Role description
Title: Senior Data Engineer
Location: Remote with the flexibility to drive into the Columbia, MD office (commutable distance from DMV/Pennsylvania) for team planning, 1 to a handful of days per month.
Terms of Employment:
• W2 Contract-to-Hire, 12-Month
• Remote with the flexibility to drive into the Columbia, MD office (commutable distance from DMV/Pennsylvania) for team planning, 1 to a handful of days per month.
Overview:
Join the leading healthcare organization and become a key technical driver for their critical pre- and post-adjudication claims engine platform. This is a high-impact role on a small, fast-moving "startup" team where you will serve as a subject matter expert in data engineering, empowered to evaluate current systems and recommend/implement improvements. Your work will primarily focus on leveraging Snowflake for data evaluation, reporting, and massaged data needs, impacting eight major health plans.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform operational and system engineering-focused tasks within the data platform.
• Work extensively within Snowflake for claims reporting, data evaluation, and data manipulation/massaging.
• Oracle data, which is replicated into Snowflake, for analysis.
• Write code (SQL/Python/JSON, etc.) to support necessary functions in Snowflake; however, it is not a primarily code-writing role.
• Serve as a self-starter who proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and implements solutions; do not wait for assigned tickets.
• Potentially integrate changes into a Jenkins Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline for deployment weekends.
Required Qualifications:
• Total experience of approximately 5 years in Data Engineering.
• Approximately 3 years of Senior-level experience.
• Really strong Snowflake skills (this is the primary data focus for the role).
• Strong background in understanding Dimensional Models and other data structures.
• Experience with JSON.
• Experience with the AWS cloud platform (most code is on AWS).
• Experience with real-time and batch data ingestion architecture.
• Experience using AWS DMS (Database Migration Service) for real-time ingestion from Oracle to Snowflake.
• Must be a self-starter, self-motivated, and capable of operating with limited managerial oversight.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with a Healthcare or Insurance background to ease terminology understanding. (Note: This is ideal but not a knockout factor for a rock star candidate).
• Knowledge of Kafka for streaming.
• Familiarity with Snowpark.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines for Snowflake (specifically using Jenkins is a plus).
